About the role

We are on the lookout for a Senior Data Engineer to enhance our vibrant team. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in crafting scalable, efficient data solutions that reinforce our business intelligence and analytics capabilities. Your technical acumen and enthusiasm for data will be the cornerstone of our strategy. Collaborating with our team, you will develop outstanding data products, delivering critical insights that empower Road to make well-informed, strategic business decisions.

As a Data Engineer, you collaborate with other Data Engineers, Analytical Engineers, and Data analysts to build resilient and scalable solutions in a fast-moving cloud environment.

You are at the heart of our technical operations, leading the design and architectures of complex data processing pipelines essential for ingesting and transforming data from different sources. Your role is crucial in managing and optimizing data flows, ensuring efficiency and scalability in our data infrastructure.

Your responsibilities include:

• Supporting the team, and your lead, on the technical side. Your proficiency in cloud computing, along with your engineering skills empowers your team to build resilient and scalable data solutions;
• Navigating conversations with stakeholders and asking questions to key business individuals. This approach ensures that our data strategy is seamlessly integrated with our commercial objectives, showcasing your technical and business acumen blend;
• Mentoring your colleagues about data engineering topics, for instance by pair programming with them and presenting inspiring demos;
• Working closely with a newly formed team of professionals with a strong bias towards getting things done;
• Contributing to the establishment of a data team and creating a data environment from the ground up, fostering a culture of data-driven decision-making throughout the organization;
• Taking the lead on technical aspects, guiding the team through complex projects, and seeing the impact of your work on the company's goals;
• Building and optimizing efficient, scalable data processing architectures using cutting-edge technologies in cloud environments;
• Developing and orchestrating data pipelines using different technologies, like Airflow or Stitch (when convenient);
• Your expertise in cloud data warehousing and data modeling drives you to improve data storage and retrieval processes continually;
• Staying updated with the latest advancements in data engineering and applying them to your work is something you always look forward to.

What do we value in our candidates?

• Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field;
• 3+ years of experience in data engineering using both Python and SQL;
• Proficient in Cloud Computing & DevOps best practices e.g. GCP, Docker, Kubernetes;
• Experience building custom & scalable ELT pipelines and orchestrating them using Airflow or Google Cloud Composer;
• Experience in Cloud Data warehousing, preferably using BigQuery and dbt;
• Solid understanding of data modeling and database design principles (Kimball, Inmon, OneBig Table, etc);
• Solid knowledge of git and GitHub;
• Experience with BI tools like Looker, Tableau, Preset, or Superset;
• You have experience with continuous integration, logging, and monitoring;
• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills;
• Good command of the English language in words and writing;
• Strong teamwork, stakeholder management, and sprint planning skills;
• Familiarity with the principles of data mesh, such as domain-oriented decentralized data ownership and self-serve data infrastructure is a definite plus.
