About The Role

The Senior Data Engineer role is responsible for facilitating development and delivery of projects, as well as administration, maintenance, support and continuous improvement of the AFL Industry Cloud Data Warehouse.

You will be responsible for developing and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines from multiple sources and designing, building and deploying data-marts and their features in the new cloud environment to support the club and internal operations of the AFL.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF

Key Accountabilities

  • Effectively develop and maintain data pipelines in the AFL’s Cloud Data Warehouse
  • Design, build and maintain data marts/models that support the business and industry.
  • Develop software that is of high quality and adheres to performance, security, scalability and reliability requirements and guidelines
  • Operate with a continuous improvement mindset, showing capability to navigate and solve problems in a dynamic environment.
  • Communicate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders regarding data engineering requirements.
  • Commit to and meet deadlines, showing capability to work on multiple, concurrent priorities under pressure.

OUR IDEAL TEAM MEMBER

Core Competencies

Mandatory

  • 5+ years in data and/or software engineering
  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or other relevant field.
  • Strong critical thinking, organisational, interpersonal communication, multi-tasking and prioritising skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability interact with all levels of the organisation and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions with minimal supervision and direction
  • Hands on experience with AWS core services such as EC2, S3 and IAM, as well as an awareness of Cloud Engineering in AWS and related services
  • Strong experience with SQL and Python programming languages
  • Understanding of data modelling approaches including Data Vault and Kimball approaches
  • Unix/Linux and Windows operating system experience.
  • Experience in an Agile delivery framework

Desirable

  • Understanding of continuous integration, deployment and data testing technologies
  • An understanding of the sports industry, ticketing and membership platforms.
