Rates: $110 - $140 per hour (inc. super)


The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) is seeking an APS6 Actuary / Data Scientist who will be part of a team leadership position within the NDIA and will have delegated authority and responsibility to resolve issues and risks across various activities. It will provide the leadership, control, planning, resource management, performance management and decision making for the team. The role has reasonable autonomy and accountability to exercise initiative and judgment in interpreting legislation and policy and applying practices and procedures to achieve outcomes within the functions.


The APS6 Actuary / Data Scientist will provide detailed technical, professional, policy, and operational support and advice in relation to complex problems. It may be required to coordinate and assist in the strategic planning, program and project management and policy development that support the NDIA’s objectives to “build a world-leading National Disability Insurance Scheme.


The role will involve considerable public contact regarding complex, difficult, or sensitive issues. It may also liaise with various internal and external stakeholders in a representational role on behalf of the branch/division/NDIA.


Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

Essential Criteria

  1. Three years of actuarial data analytics experience supporting government policy development
  2. Experience with complex internal and external stakeholder engagement and management
  3. Experience with leadership management of small t
  4. Proficient R programming skills, including data manipulation and analysis
  5. Proficient SQL SAS program

Desirable criteria

  1. Experience with government processes (budget, legislation, policy development, briefs/documents
  2. Strong understanding of modelling techniques, including GLMs and
  3. GBMs.Experience in applying technical skills to solve open-ended and evolving business problems.
