Position Summary:

This role will focus on analyzing financial and operational data; working with business units; and subject matter experts to drive business improvements using data and analytics. The data analyst will use existing reports and data; develop new data queries; and data mine for new opportunities to make a meaningful impact to the financial performance of Marine Credit Union. The data analyst will use production systems, our data warehouse, and other systems as source data. The data analyst will build and refine queries to extract data; and create and test reports using Excel and Microsoft Power BI; etc. Work will also involve analysis of data and business problems to recommend and implement solutions.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work on projects with business unit partners and support other financial analysts with data and analytics.
  • Troubleshoot data discrepancies and work to automate data quality and exception reporting with the goal of maintaining high quality finance data.
  • Analyze and report on finance data.
  • Understand business needs related to finance data and provide data related finance solutions.
  • Manage multiple finance data analysis projects and initiatives and deliver on time.
  • Effectively communicate, collaborate, and negotiate with internal customers regarding needs, scope, and priorities.
  • All other duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Statistical and/or math abilities and aptitude for working with large quantities of data and describing complex problems and solutions in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to write complex queries in SQL.
  • Ability to collaborate with both technical and business staff.
  • Sound judgment: ability to recommend and make decisions based upon analysis.
  • Exhibits strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to present information and relevant summaries of financial data to all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and manage change effectively.
  • Ability and desire to learn new skills and tools.
  • Python, Jupyter, or related data analysis preferred.
  • Experience with SQL Server Management Studio preferred.
  • Experience creating reports in Power BI preferred.
  • Experience creating reports in and using Salesforce preferred.


Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience required in a data intensive environment working with finance and/or accounting data.
  • Previous financial services experience desired but not required.


Education:

  • 4-year college degree with major in Business, Finance, Information Systems, Computer Science, or other related field.

Physical Requirements (with or without accommodation):

  • Long periods of sitting will occur regularly.
  • Occasional lifting and/or moving 15 lbs or less.
  • Occasional bending, stooping or crouching may be required.
