Junior Data Analyst

Job description

Who are we?

Proforest is a mission-driven organisation that provides a consultancy service working throughout agricultural supply chains supporting the production and sourcing of agricultural and forest commodities that deliver positive environmental and social outcomes for People, Nature and Climate. These cover issues such as protecting and restoring forests and natural ecosystems, respecting worker’s rights, advancing gender equality, and engaging with communities and indigenous people.

What will you do?

Working as part of a friendly, dedicated and enthusiastic team you’ll be playing an important role in providing data expertise within our consultancy client project teams, working with colleagues in Proforest offices around the globe. You’ll be responsible for taking data and displaying this information in visually engaging dashboards and reports - helping colleagues understand our clients’ needs towards delivering meaningful environmental and social positive outcomes in their supply chains and production base. This is a great entry-level role for someone with a passion for what we do, and who wants to learn and develop their data skills within a supportive and collaborative environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Build an understanding of the data challenges in commodity supply chains, supplier engagement, and environmental and social reporting frameworks
  • Support data workstreams on client projects:

- Understand client supply chain, social and environmental data, decision-making, and internal & external reporting needs

- Identify the underlying information needed to create visualisation and reporting tools, and the relationship between disparate datasets

- Clean, validate, and manipulate data to map out supply chains and calculate Key Performance Indicators

- Summarise data in clear and engaging tables and figures

- Interpret results and summary statistics from interactive dashboards

- Track and report progress and any issues to the project manager

  • Actively participate in our global data team, and work to build capabilities in our wider consultancy team through training and knowledge sharing.

What is your profile?

You’ll be analytically minded, inquisitive, and eager to learn, someone who has a keen interest in environmental and social issues. To be considered for this role you will also have:

  • Experience collecting data, manipulating datasets, and creating figures using tools such as Excel (advanced level) either gained through work experience or within an academic setting
  • Experience in extracting, cleaning, and transforming data from multiple, dispersed sources
  • Comfortable researching and adopting new tools and techniques to solve data problems
  • Excellent time-management, problem-solving and organisational abilities with an eye for detail
  • The ability and desire to work and collaborate in a multi-cultural environment
  • Advanced proficiency in written and spoken English
  • Degree level or above in either a data-related and/or in a social or environmental-related subject.

Desirable but not essential to have to be considered:

  • Working knowledge of Spanish, French, Portuguese, Bahasa or Mandarin
  • Experience and/or knowledge of PowerBI, Power Query, Smartsheets or ArcGIS
  • Experience and/or knowledge of R or other programming languages such as Python, DAX, SQL, and JavaScript
  • Willingness and ability to travel for potential overseas project work (very ad-hoc)
  • Proven presentation skills.

Why should you work for us?

  • Be part of a global organisation with a shared vision, working in offices across 8 countries with staff from more than 17 countries, speaking more than 40 languages
  • We organize regular in-person team gatherings, regional and international knowledge exchanges and social events
  • We support learning and development with a dedicated team to help you achieve your goals; we provide access to training for technical knowledge and competency skills
  • We offer 25 days annual leave plus public holidays (with an extra 2 days the following year should you take your earned holiday within the year)
  • We contribute to your pension (up to 8%)
  • Life insurance and income protection insurance
  • Access to an employee assistance programme and other benefits.
