We are currently looking for a Data Analyst to join our Safety & HR Analytics teams for an 8-month contract term. Reporting to the Manager, HR Process & Analytics, the Data Analyst will be responsible for collaborating with team members across Emera’s international operating companies to develop reporting and provide analytics expertise in support of our safety and business strategy. The Data Analyst role provides an excellent development opportunity serving as a cross-functional subject matter expert to the Safety and HR groups, continuously assessing our data for insights, innovation of processes, and industry trends. In this exciting new role, you will be encouraged make suggestions to innovate, modernize, and act as a thoughtful leader.

Key elements of this role include:

  • Support and assist in developing a data strategy for the business;
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in data analytics and reporting processes;
  • Manage the delivery of analytics and insights by compiling and analyzing large sets of disparate data (e.g. safety incidents etc.);
  • Understand our business processes and translate them into measurable data or reporting requirements including content, frequency, and data source;
  • Review reporting processes and its results to ensure value and customer satisfaction;
  • Continuously seek opportunities to innovate and improve while creating efficiencies;
  • Provide input into the design of new systems and applications, participate in testing and support deployment to our end users.

As the ideal candidate you recognize yourself in most of the following competencies, and possess or are working towards the desired skills and experience listed below:

  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field: preferably with a quantitative focus, such as Engineering, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Economics, or Computer Science or equivalent experience;
  • Proven analytical skills and 1-2 years experience in a data analytics field;
  • Previous experience working with stakeholders in a fast-paced corporate environment would be beneficial;
  • Strong proficiency in MS Excel including experience with advanced formulas, Excel macros, and intermediate Python are highly desirable;
  • Previous experience with BI and data visualization tools such as Tableau, including Tableau Prep Builder are a MUST;
  • A self-motivated individual who brings strong quantitative skills and high attention to detail;
  • Strong communication skills and demonstrated ability to present to a diverse group in a compelling and influential manner;
  • Superior decision making and problem-solving skills with the ability to develop, recommend and implement innovative solutions;
  • A strong collaborator and team player who excels at facilitating outcomes with the needs of various stakeholders in mind while effectively prioritizing and managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced dynamic environment while meeting deadlines;
  • Proven ability to manage sensitive and confidential data;
