About the role:

In the role of Junior Data Engineer you will analyse, design, and develop data-oriented solutions and databases in the Carbon Trust’s Business Services team. You will collaborate closely with colleagues in our data team, Digital Solutions program, and IT team to implement systems and tools that enhance insights for our clients, driving mission impact while achieving operational efficiencies.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and implement data solutions leveraging Azure technologies to transfer data efficiently and securely between both internal and external systems.
  • Support delivery teams to identify, ingest and validate client data required for carbon footprint analysis, target setting, decarbonisation planning and assurance
  • Optimise and streamline processes to enhance performance and reliability.
  • Develop and maintain documentation ensuring clarity and accessibility for stakeholders.
  • Proactively monitor data movement pipelines for performance issues, and swiftly troubleshoot and resolve any issues that arise.
  • Ensure data quality and consistency through effective data governance and quality control measures within Azure ecosystems.
  • Foster collaboration with team members and cross-functional departments to drive data-centric initiatives.
  • Stay abreast of the latest advances in Azure data services and other cloud data technologies, and integrate best practices into the organization’s data strategies.
  • Contribute innovative ideas to enhance the data engineering practices and support the company’s strategic goals.



Key skills we are looking for:

Need to have:

  • Demonstrable use of ETL techniques and tools such as Microsoft Azure Data Factory.
  • Data manipulation experience using Python
  • Strong proficiency with SQL and Relational Databases (e.g., Microsoft SQL Server)
  • Demonstrable knowledge of CI/CD principles, automating the build, test, and deployment processes for efficient and reliable software delivery.
  • Excellent listening, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic consulting environment, with strong problem-solving capabilities and a keen attention to detail


Nice to have

  • Data engineering experience using Azure Data Factory and Databricks
  • Software engineering experience using one, or more of: Python, C#, C++, JavaScript (TypeScript)
  • Experience of delivering projects in line with global footprinting guidance and standards



Qualifications and experience:

  • B.Sc. in a technical degree, including but not limited to Computer Science or Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Experience as a Data Engineer, developing ELT/ETL pipelines for ingesting, processing, and storing large volumes of text data.
  • Experience analysing and producing requirements for data solutions.
  • Experience supporting UAT (User Acceptance Testing) activities to ensure delivery of solutions that meet business requirements.
  • Experience with Agile development underpinned with appropriate tools such as Jira, Confluence, GIT
  • Fluency in oral and written English



Salary & Benefits:

We offer a competitive salary and a performance based bonus. Our hours are 37.5 per week with 28 days paid holiday plus bank holidays and a generous pension scheme.
