About The Role

The purpose of Everyday Banking is to provide products that are simple, easy to use and enable our customers to bank with confidence. We do this through the design, manufacture, and management of a simple range of products to bring the customer proposition to life for our retail customers.

As a Data Engineer in Customer Lifecycle and Wealth, your role will be a hybrid role between an engineer supporting adoption and technology transformation (Jungle 2), establishing engineering best practises and toolkits as well as analytical support to provide data-led insight in strategy creation, analytics and reporting pertaining to customer engagement and performance analytics within the Everyday Banking products suite (Deposits, Credit Cards, Personal Loans and Wealth).

You will be pivotal as the engineer within the team to establish a strong data culture within the squad and ultimately set a standard for best practise where applicable.

What Will Your Day Look Like

  • Liaising with product owners and Journey Experts to understand business problems
  • Sourcing & analysing customer / account data to support the resolution of any issues identified
  • Attend stand-up to align progress on your individual tasks
  • Work in collaborative teams to explore business initiatives
  • Support individual missions of Squads through data analysis
  • Collaborate across the data chapter and retail analytics to uplift the overall data capability


What will you bring?

  • Background and experience in products (Credit Card, Personal Loan, Deposits, Wealth however not mandatory)
  • Analytical & problem-solving skills to understand the detail of business questions across customer engagement, remediation and compliance
  • Ability to work with raw/unorganised data sets to obtain required information
  • Hands-on knowledge and experience with tools and techniques for analysis, data manipulation and presentation (e.g. SQL, Python, Cloud)
  • Strong customer lens and affinity
  • Analytical and inquisitive mindset to continuously improve the level of insight surfaced
  • Thorough approach to detail, ensuring a high level of accuracy
  • Ability to effectively communicate to all stakeholders (translate technical into non-technical and vice-versa)
  • Strong background in at least one of the following: distributed data processing, software engineering of data services, or data modelling
  • Proficient in at least one major programming language (eg. Python, Scala, Java)
  • Comfortable with complex SQL (Teradata Knowledge is preferred)
  • Proficient in engineering data pipelines using big data technologies (Spark, Trino, Airflow) on largescale data sets
  • Proficient with Jupyter Notebook or similar.
  • Working knowledge on established ETL tools is an added advantage (Preferably KNIME)
  • Experience working within cross-functional, agile or continuous delivery teams
  • Experience with migration to Cloud Technologies will be an added advantage.
