The Opportunity -

Boeing Defence Australia (BDA) is looking for a Data Engineer/Scientist who will join the Engineering Strategy & Ops team, who are focused in creating Engineering excellence through diversity, culture, and strategic initiatives. This exciting role will play a crucial role in leveraging data to drive insights, solve complex problems, and contribute to the growth and success of our organisation.

We would welcome applicants who want to work flexibly in both hours and location (including part time work, a mix of home/office and office location including Brisbane, Adelaide, Newcastle or Melbourne).

As a Data Engineer/Scientist, you will


  • Collect, clean, pre-process, and analyse large datasets to extract meaningful insights and patterns.
  • Develop and implement statistical models, machine learning algorithms, and predictive analytics to optimise processes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify data-driven opportunities and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Conduct exploratory data analysis to uncover trends, correlations, and anomalies.
  • Design and build data visualisations, dashboards, and reports to effectively communicate findings to stakeholders.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in data science, machine learning, and big data technologies, and apply them to enhance our data-driven capabilities.
  • Collaborate with data engineers and IT teams to ensure data quality, integrity, and security.


To be successful in this role you will have:


  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a Data Scientist or in a similar role, with a strong track record of delivering impactful insights and solutions.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R, and experience with data manipulation and analysis libraries (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, SciPy).
  • Solid understanding of statistical analysis, machine learning algorithms, and predictive modelling techniques.
  • Experience with data visualisation tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) to effectively communicate complex findings.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and analytically.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark) and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of SQL and database management systems.
  • Skilled in leading through influence
