Summary

The Data Engineering Intern will play a pivotal role in managing and organizing RNDC's enterprise data. They will be responsible for translating requirements and designs into functional data pipelines while ensuring the quality and completeness of information. The intern will work on combining raw data from various sources to create consistent, machine-readable datasets that support company initiatives. Additionally, they will implement methods to improve data reliability and quality, enhance data visibility, and reduce effort through automation.

In this role, you will

  • Assist in designing, implementing, and maintaining data pipelines on Snowflake data warehouses for optimal extraction, transformation, integration, and loading of raw data from diverse sources.
  • Optimize and troubleshoot Snowflake queries to enhance performance and efficiency.
  • Assemble large, complex data sets and model data to meet functional and non-functional business requirements.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of data pipelines using Apache Airflow, collaborating with team members to understand data workflow requirements.
  • Create data tools for analytics team members to generate innovative industry insights, giving our business a competitive advantage.
  • Expand knowledge of our application ecosystem and gain an understanding of the data produced and consumed by our systems.
  • Implement data tagging mechanisms and metadata management to accurately classify data and make it visible to the organization.
  • Build processes to identify and improve data quality, consistency, effectiveness, and opportunities for automation.
  • Ensure data management conforms to all information privacy and protection policies.
  • Utilize agile software development processes to iteratively enhance our data management systems.
  • Advocate for best practices and engage in continued learning.

What you bring to RNDC

  • Currently pursuing or possessing a degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, or a related field at the bachelor's, master's, or technical school level.
  • Experience, training, or certification in data engineering.
  • Understanding of data warehousing concepts and architectures, knowledge of SQL, and experience with databases.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., SQL, Python, Java).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of data engineering concepts and best practices related to modern data platforms.
  • Familiarity with Snowflake, Apache Airflow, and AWS services (S3, MWAA, Lambda, SNS/SQS, etc.).
  • Exposure to big data technologies (e.g., Kafka, Apache Spark, etc.).
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies.
  • Experience with GitHub and CI/CD skills.a
