The Data Analyst plays a pivotal role in auditing and analyzing our waste stream, collection, management accounts, employee, and Business Intelligence (BI) data. This role demands a proactive approach to identify, escalate, and resolve concerns in the information recorded in our system as well as in our operational processes.

Responsibilities

Data analyses, auditing and reporting

  • Conduct comprehensive audits and analyses of waste stream, collection, financial, management accounts, employee, and BI data to identify discrepancies, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement
  • Perform statistical analyses to uncover trends and patterns
  • Escalate findings to relevant stakeholders and follow up rigorously to ensure concerns are addressed and resolved promptly
  • Work closely with different departments to understand data and process flows, identifying potential risks and proposing actionable solutions to mitigate these risks
  • Perform statistical analyses to uncover trends and patterns
  • Prepare and present reports to management, highlighting findings, progress, and recommendations for strategic decision-making
  • Determine reporting requirements for generalized company-wide reporting needs as well as individual reporting needs for senior and top management, and set up dashboard widgets to provide the required insight
  • Communicate complex data insights in a clear, actionable manner to non-technical audiences

Stakeholder engagement and communication

  • Raise data-driven concerns with regional Heads of Departments and Directors
  • Follow up on raised concerns to ensure they are addressed in a timely and effective manner
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders to foster a culture of data-driven decision making

Data quality management

  • Develop validation protocols to ensure data accuracy across all systems Regularly audit data for discrepancies and implement corrective measures
  • Advocate for the adoption of best practices in data handling and processing

Predictive modeling

  • Apply statistical tools to build models predicting future industry trends
  • Adjust models based on emerging data and industry shifts to maintain forecast accuracy
  • Share predictive insights with stakeholders to aid in long-term planning

Business improvements

  • Suggest changes in operational processes based on data-driven insights to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance sustainability
  • Collaborate with the IT/systems departments to enhance data collection and analysis tools, ensuring data integrity and reliability
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and regulations to ensure compliance and identify opportunities for innovation

Continuous improvement

  • Automate data collection and analysis where possible to enhance efficiency
  • Suggest and implement improvements in the analytics framework to support business growth

Compliance and best practices

  • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory data management requirements
  • Keep abreast of the latest trends in data analysis and environmental management

Documentation

  • Document data and process flows meticulously, ensuring accurate and accessible records for future reference and compliance purposes

Secondary duties

  • Assist with any general systems-related duties as and when required
  • Attend client meetings when required
  • Assume the responsibilities of the Systems Manager when he/she is unavailable or otherwise occupied

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in data science, statistics, computer science, environmental science, or related
  • Experience in data analysis, ideally in waste management, recycling, logistics, warehousing or a similar field
  • Expertise in SQL, MySQL, statistical software and visualization tools
  • Strong communication skills for conveying data insights to various stakeholders
  • Knowledge of predictive analytics, data validation techniques, and compliance standards
  • Minimum 1 year working experience in a data analyses or related field
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, is essential
