Introduction to role:

We are seeking a Senior AI (Artificial Intelligence) or Associate Principal AI Engineer to join our team and work toward innovative AI research as elegant, enterprise-ready products. As an AI Engineer, you will be responsible for developing efficient and scalable processes, automating our processes through devops, gitops, and mlops automation and both designing and implementing interfaces to our products.

The Center for Artificial Intelligence (CAI) is a lab focused on applying machine learning research to the toughest challenges at AstraZeneca. We are a team of experts from different fields including Machine Intelligence, Data Science, Real World Evidence and Bioinformatics.

Senior AI Engineer

Accountabilities:


  • Contribute to software engineering standards within the team and develop documentation and artifacts that make it simple to apply to new or existing projects.
  • Develop user friendly and intuitive interfaces to our products.
  • Take the initiative in designing and implementing solutions to drive down costs and environmental impact by automating processes through devops, gitops, and mlops automation.
  • Educate people about how to use these solutions in their everyday work.
  • Work collaboratively with multi-functional teams to deliver projects on time and to the highest standards.


Essential Skills/Experience:


  • Demonstrable record of accomplishment of implementing software engineering best practices.
  • Demonstrable experience entire machine learning lifecycle.
  • Demonstrable experience with front-end design and UX.
  • Exposure to Kubernetes and deployment of tools in that context.
  • Demonstrable experience collaborating with teams that have different competences.
  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant area or demonstrable, equivalent achievements outside academia.
  • Work experience in the area.


Desirable Skills/Experience:


  • Experience working in a domain subject to regulatory oversight.
  • Experience working in a scientific research environment.
  • Understanding of the pharmaceutical industry and its processes.


Associate Principal AI Engineer

Key Accountabilities:


  • Take ownership of software engineering standards within the team and develop documentation and artifacts that make it simple to apply to new or existing projects.
  • Develop efficient and scalable processes for distributed training of large ML models in both cloud and on-prem environments, working with internal infrastructure teams and external vendors and research institutes.
  • Drive down costs and environmental impact by automating processes through devops, gitops, and mlops automation, reducing the need for human intervention.
  • Work collaboratively with broad and diverse teams to deliver projects on time and to the highest standards.


Essential Requirements


  • Demonstrable record of accomplishment of implementing software engineering standard methodologies for multiple use cases.
  • Demonstrable experience automating the entire machine learning model lifecycle.
  • Demonstrable experience optimizing distributed training of machine learning models.
  • Demonstrable advanced use of Kubernetes and implementation of machine learning tools in that context.
  • Demonstrable experience collaborating with teams that have different competences.


Desirable Skills and Experience:


  • Relevant degrees, qualifications, and certifications.
  • Experience working in a domain subject to regulatory oversight.
  • Experience working in a scientific research environment.
  • Understanding of the pharmaceutical industry and its processes.
