The Senior Machine Learning Engineer role is pivotal within our framework, focusing on designing and delivering technically challenging projects that yield significant business value. This involves leading and/or contributing to projects ranging from prototypes to fully industrialized solutions. Moreover, the role entails supporting the broader data science community and collaborating with various technology teams to ensure success.

To achieve this, the Data Science & AI Centre of Excellence at Suncorp develops key initiatives integrated into business processes and supports strategic leaders and the wider data science community. This encompasses fostering strong relationships, providing strategic advice, and facilitating optimal initiative development both internally and externally. Furthermore, the Centre drives the development of Suncorp's Data Science & AI ecosystem, encompassing platforms and integration into core systems.

What You’ll Do

• Develop high-impact use cases, such as Generative AI models and Intelligent Process Automation, to improve business processes across Suncorp Group
• Bring in external Data Science and AI thinking, provide guidance to the Data Science technical job family, and contribute to the industry through networks and forums
• Utilize high technical competency to solve business problems and deploy solutions into production systems at scale, fostering uplift within the Data Science community
• Demonstrate the value of Data Science & AI to senior technical stakeholders, build relationships with other technical teams, and negotiate solution designs
• Influence the strategy and design of platforms, tools, and processes, providing input for systems with significant AI components
• Provide technical thought leadership, training, and guidance to team members, fostering an optimal working environment for learning, growth, and delivery of outcomes
  
  

What You’ll Bring

• 7+ years practising in Data Science, AI or closely related disciplines
• Bachelor's Degree in a technical subject area (mandatory)
• Postgraduate degree in a relevant statistical or data science-related field (highly desired)
• Experience in developing and productionizing Data Science pipelines involving Machine Learning algorithms (mandatory)
• Desirable experience working with OpenShift and Databricks
• Desirable knowledge of Generative AI and experience building prototypes using GenAI
• Proficiency in Python and Shell scripting programming
• Strong expertise in CI/CD, cloud automation, and MLOps for managing the ML lifecycle
