AM Data Science is the dedicated Data Science division of J.P. Morgan Asset Management. The team is primarily focused on developing AI/ML methods to drive innovative solutions for data-driven investment decision-making, improved client engagement, and operational effectiveness.

What You Can Expect

To work alongside top tier professionals, including data scientists, investment professionals, and marketing analytics teams, driving product innovation and identifying opportunities to incorporate machine learning into J.P. Morgan Asset Management.

The successful applicant will form a part of our ESG pod, a subset of the larger AM Data Science team. This group specializes in applying data science techniques to help develop our understanding of companies' environmental, social and governance characteristics. Typical projects could include:

  • Helping to develop a proprietary scoring framework to evaluate companies across ESG dimensions
  • Use of ML methods to build now-cast or forecast models for predicting company ESG characteristics, e.g., predicting greenhouse gas emissions for companies who do not disclose those metrics
  • Working with investors on bespoke, thematic projects and research to aid in security selection, alpha generation, etc.
  • Discovering, developing and building out new data sets including the use of alternative data
  • Generating data-driven insights from ESG research for use in marketing publications

Our technology stack is a mixture of cloud (AWS) and on premise with research undertaken using Python.

About You

We're looking for problem-solvers with a passion for developing innovative solutions!

Qualifications:

  • Degree in a numerate discipline
  • Solid understanding of statistical and data fundamentals including hypothesis testing, exploratory data analysis, linear and nonlinear modeling, optimization and signal construction
  • Strong practical data science skillset in Python with experience working with large data sets, cleaning unstructured data, building and deploying signals and models, and utilizing automated testing
  • Demonstrable passion and expertise in data science (e.g. through publications, Kaggle or open source participation)
  • Experience working in a collaborative, technical environment (data science, quant or technology)
  • Ability to explain complex subject matter to a non-technical audience; ability to tell a story with data

Highly advantageous:
  • Front office experience in finance (buyside or sellside)
  • Knowledge of alternative data landscape
  • Past experience with ESG processes or data
  • CFA
