Purpose :
The Principal Research Data Scientist position is a critical role for AbbVie within the Data Solutions department. This individual will evolve the ecosystem of solutions for data capture and consumption of competitive intelligence data. Additionally, this role will use chemistry domain expertise to consult on molecule registration, representation, and curation with system owners, business partners, and collaborators. Key responsibilities include expanding the current scope of both molecule and data types included within our federated database, which is compiled of internal and external data; while integrating this data into existing and new applications. The individual in this role will interface between data scientists, developers, and business partners to develop new technology solutions that advance scientists’ access, visualization, and interpretation of data.
Responsibilities :
Evolve - Advance technical expertise within both the competitive intelligence and the chemistry capture/storage/search functional areas to proactively anticipate the needs of business partners to improve existing capabilities and develop new ones. Ensure Abbvie R&D fully leverages data from our vendor databases, such as Clarivate, Excelera, Metabase, etc.
Lead - Demonstrate leadership by advising and sharing knowledge and expert opinions with cross functional teams within the R&D organization and Abbive Research Convergence Hub.
Partner – develop key business partnerships to understand the evolving needs of the chemistry community for data analysis and visualization in the areas of target assessment, competitive landscape, and compound design.
Integrity – Ensure high integrity for data migration and data consumption within data domain expertise areas.
Communicate and collaborate with cross functional teams and pharmaceutical scientists to implement state-of-the-art data presentation and visualization.
Integrate – Collaborate with team members to enable seamless access to data across data domains of both internal and external data.
Develop – Both independently and through collaborative efforts with team members, build and advance visual analytic tools that evolve capabilities for the R&D organization.
Expand – grow the internal knowledge and best practices for platform applications, such as Spotfire and other query and visualization applications.
Qualifications
Bachelors Degree in Chemistry or equivalent experience or related field with 10+ years of related work experience is preferred. PhD in Chemistry preferred.
Technical background in cheminformatics and/or similiar industrial experience/industries.
Domain knowledge expert of vendor sourced databases related to the pharmaceutical industry strongly preferred.
Demonstrated ability to independently lead projects and proactively anticipate needs of R&D community
Extensive knowledge of data structures and API integrations.
Extensive experience using Spotfire or other data visualization tools.
Experience using data pipelining software, such as Pipeline Pilot.
Proven ability to innovate with a history of new or improved technology solutions with remarkable impact on functional group productivity.
Interacts well with diverse groups within function and maintains strong working relationships with internal and external collaborators.
Demonstrated ability to influence others in areas of science and technology.
