Department Description:

The Oregon Lottery's Analytics and Insights Team serves as a center of excellence for promoting data-driven decision-making throughout the organization. You will report to the Manager, Analytics and work as part of our existing team of data scientists and business analysts. You will consult with the enterprise to integrate business analytics and performance metrics into decision-making across the agency. We also partner with the agency's Enterprise Information Management team to ensure data governance, data quality, and distributed access to business intelligence.

Position Description:

Data Scientists collaborate with decision-makers to identify product, marketing, and retail opportunities and challenges, develop dashboards to support real-time performance tracking, and translate data into insights. You will be a department and agency subject matter expert in business analytics, business intelligence, financial/logistics modeling, and performance metrics. You will consult with decision-makers across all levels of the agency to promote agency-wide data literacy and data-driven decision-making.

You Will:

  • Be experienced in using SQL, Excel, and Power BI or Tableau
  • Consult with partners to lead the evaluation, analysis, and performance monitoring of business models, products, features, sales channels, equipment, and services
  • Create narrative and visual reports and conduct working sessions to translate business insights into actions
  • Access databases, data warehouses, and large datasets - integrating data from multiple sources to better understand opportunities and challenges across the customer, retailer, and product lifecycle
  • Produce reports and dashboards in Power BI to monitor product/service performance, act on opportunities, and address pain points
  • Gain the trust and respect of colleagues by understanding their strategies and helping them connect insights to actions
  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement and accuracy across your work
  • Experience using statistical tools such as R, Python, or SPSS a big plus
  • Experience with geospatial analytics software a plus

Minimum Work Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree and five (5) years of experience in business analytics, data science, and performance measurement that includes at least two (2) years of writing complex SQL queries; OR
  • Eight (8) years of experience in business analytics, data science, and performance measurement that includes at least three (3) years of writing complex SQL queries.
