The Red Bull Athlete Performance Center (APC) is an athlete accelerator enabling Red Bull athletes to become truly outstanding performers. We use advanced technology, analytics and insights from hundreds of different sports to recognize an athlete’s individual potential.

The APC is a high-pace growth environment. It is on a course of buildout and expansion both on the physical side (facilities) as well as increasing its support for strategic sports disciplines such as soccer, ice hockey, F1 and others. Underpinning these plans is an investment and various operational plans to expand the data infrastructure, engineering and analytics capabilities.

The Backend (Data) Engineer will support us for 20h/week and will be situated either in Munich or in Thalgau (Salzburg) and will be APC’s Data Engineering lead, supporting

  • heavy data-users (individuals) from the various APC departments (e.g. diagnostics, analytics) who rely on a reliable data pipeline which feeds data to the rest of the organization
  • high-end sports data analysts and data scientists (global data team) from the APC, Red Bull Soccer and the Red Bull team sports/clubs.

CREATE AND MAINTAIN AUTOMATED PIPELINES FROM VARIOUS SOURCES

Create and maintain automated pipelines from various sources (user input, data-generating equipment, purchased data) and merge them into - clean - valid - maintainable - usable at scale - sustainable for additions/improvements databases / datasets

REWRITE DATA ANALYSTS/SCIENTIST CODE (IF AND WHEN REQUIRED) IN ORDER TO USE THE PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE(S) MORE EFFECTIVELY (RELIABILITY, AVAILABILITY, SCALE)

WRITE TEST AND IMPLEMENT CODE THAT INVOKES API’S, SUPPORT OTHERS WITH COMPLEX DB QUERIES (WRITE, REVIEW, ADVISE)

DEVELOP AND MAINTAIN SCHEMAS, A WORKABLE DB CHANGE MANAGEMENT PROCESS FOR BE/FE USERS OF THE DB

ALIGNED TO THE VARIOUS SPECIFIC NEEDS (DIRECT DATA USERS AND APPLICATIONS), DEVELOP AND MANAGE THE OVERALL APPROACH FOR RAW DATA, INGESTED, EXTRACTED AND TRANSFORMED DATA (ETL), STORAGE OF VARIOUS FORMATS AND LEVELS (E.G. SUBSETS, SUMMARY, CALCULATED, KPI’S)

DESIGN, IMPLEMENT AND MAINTAIN DB SCHEMAS BUILT FOR ENABLEMENT OF POWERBI/TABLEAU ANALYSTS AND OTHER DATA SAVVY USER GROUPS

BALANCE THE NEEDS VS. LIMITED RESOURCES, PROVIDE FOCUS TO REACH IMMEDIATE AND LONG-TERM GOALS COST-EFFECTIVELY; MANAGE FOR THE TRADEOFFS THAT COME WITH SCALE/DISTRIBUTED SYSTEMS

ANALYZE EXISTING SETUPS, CREATE DRAFT ARCHITECTURE DIAGRAMS, TEST, MODIFY, VALIDATE, AND IMPLEMENT NEW DATA PIPELINES

GUIDE/INFLUENCE DEVOPS, OPS AND APPLICATION DEV. TEAMS IN THEIR CHOICES RELATING TO DATA INFRASTRUCTURE (E.G. PROVIDE DB SCHEMAS, CREATE ENDPOINTS, IMPLEMENT CLOUD-BASED SERVICES AND TOOLS THAT UNDERPIN USE CASES OTHERS ARE BUILDING/TESTING)

Your areas of knowledge and expertise

that matter most for this role:

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in BE Data Engineering related software development projects, has already seen and helped put a few systems into production
  • Building solutions with managed services provisioned by cloud providers (AWS)
  • Proficient to advanced (expert) in SQL, JavaScript, Python –-> can write code, can review and improve code
  • First expedience with NodeJS under your belt; proficiency is a plus, but not a must
  • Experience with R is a plus, but not a must
  • Experience in working as part of a JIRA-based, agile, product dev. environment
  • Good oral communication skills, inter-personnel and cross cultural skills
  • University degree in Computer Science/Technology or an equivalent IT education
  • Fluent German and English, Portuguese is a plus but not a must

Due to legal reasons we are obliged to disclose the minimum salary according to the collective agreement for this position. However, our attractive compensation package is based on market-oriented salaries and is therefore significantly above the stated minimum salary.
