Midlands and Lancashire Commissioning Support Unit

Senior Data Scientist - Training & Development

Job description

We are looking to recruit to a new Senior Data Scientist role who has experience of NHS analytics with a strong commitment to using open-source solutions and reproducible analytical pipelines. We recognise that there is a skills gap to help analysts move in this direction and so the focus of this post is to lead, design, deliver and co-ordinate delivery of RAP and related training to internal and external stakeholders, via the Midlands Decision Support Network (MDSN) and the NHS-R Community.

The band offered will be dependent on experience.

Analytics in the NHS is on a transformational path, one that is well described within the Ben Goldacre review “Better, Broader, Safer: Using Health Data for Research and Analysis”. The Strategy Unit is committed to staying at the forefront of NHS analytics and to ensure this we recognise the need to continue to develop and expand the skillset of our analytical teams.

There will also be opportunities for the post holder to contribute to data science and application development projects.

The post holder will be provided with all the opportunities you require to develop your skills and build your career, both through formal training and hands-on experience.

The Strategy Unit is a specialist NHS team, based in Midlands and Lancashire Commissioning Support Unit. We work with NHS and social care organisations, universities, charities, and government organisations to deliver clear thinking and applied analysis that improves decision-making, implementation, and results. Our basic proposition is simple: better evidence, better decisions, better outcomes.

The NHS and its partners face significant challenges, so our services are in high demand. The Strategy Unit covers all its costs through project funding which is driven by need and any surplus is recycled for public benefit. We host the Midlands Decision Support Network https://www.midlandsdecisionsupport.nhs.uk/ and the NHS-R Community (https://nhsrcommunity.com/)
