Are you someone who is passionate about creating, maintaining, manipulating, and analysing data? If you are, then this exciting role within the Natural Capital and Ecosystems Assessment (NCEA) programme is not to be missed. As part of this programme we are designing, implementing and analysing the data from new monitoring networks to allow us to better assess and understand the state of our water environment at a national scale.

The role will focus on building automated processes that turn monitoring data into useable national scale assessments of the environment. This is an exciting opportunity to apply your data management expertise and develop our approach for NCEA outputs and products.

Key tasks may include:

  • Building a suite of tools that receive and process monitoring data, turning it into useable national scale assessments of the state of the English water environment.
  • Building data management solutions to support the new monitoring networks
  • Ensuring tools and processes can be handed over to other users by building guidance, support, and automated features.


The team

The post will sit within the Strategic Assessment & Reporting (SAR) team. We are part of the Chief Scientist’s Group in our national Environment & Business Directorate. We are a friendly and supportive team of data and information specialists, with a great reputation for delivering key information to drive the organisation’s water environment activities. Experience/skills Required

In your capability-based answers please demonstrate you:

  • Enjoy working with data and matching the needs of the customer to the analysis you do
  • Have the ability to work well as part of a dispersed team
  • Deliver your work with a focus on quality and attention to detail
  • Are able to use tools to make your work more efficient
  • Have experience developing automated data integration processes in an ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) application such as SAFE FME desktop.
  • Have experience of working with programmes such as ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online/Enterprise and Power BI (beneficial, but not essential)
  • Have experience of working with spatial data (beneficial, but not essential)
  • Be familiar with Environment Agency monitoring data (beneficial, but not essential)

You’ll have an EA Office base location, as a national role the working location is flexible.

We use smart tools to stay connected and reduce travel, some travel and overnights may be required.
