Job Summary

The Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado Boulder encourages applications for a Data Scientist of Economic and Policy Research. As our Data Scientist, you will support economic and policy research across a broad range of topics for the Business Research Division (BRD) within the Leeds School of Business. Every day, you will engage in all aspects of applied research in various topics about the economy and economic policy, oversee recent and ongoing research that includes regional economic development, economic forecasting, taxes, land use, housing, and labor markets, and use fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of particular field of specialization to perform routine scientific research tasks requiring application of established techniques, procedures, and criteria.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Conduct Economic Research Projects
These projects include:
  • Collect secondary economic data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Census Bureau, Colorado Department of Labor and Employment, Bureau of Economic Analysis and others.
  • Create and deploy surveys for the collection of primary data.
  • Conduct analytical and statistical analysis of economic data.
  • Create economic presentations and publications.
  • Visualize data via dashboards.
  • Write articles and reports about data.
Ad-hoc, Job-related Duties
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. This may include supporting project proposals, speaking to industry groups, meeting with companies, etc.

What You Should Know

We anticipate that this position will support a hybrid format (remote and in-person work).

What We Can Offer

The salary range is $65,000- $80,000 annually. Relocation assistance is available for qualified applicants.

What We Require

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or economics from an accredited institution.
  • 1 year of experience in consulting, analysis, or policy advising.

What You Will Need

  • Creative, self-motivated, and highly organized.
  • Outstanding data management skills.
  • Analytical prowess: the capacity to collect and convert unorganized pieces of data into structure, useful information.
  • Outstanding communication skills: an ability to clearly translate complex topics and mechanisms into understandable explanations for non-specialist. This requires excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Promotes an inclusive environment to reflect our values and vision at Leeds.
  • Familiarity with public data (e.g., Bureau of Labor Statistics, Census Bureau, Bureau of Economic Analysis).

What We Would Like You To Have

  • Master’s degree in business or economics from an accredited institution.
  • Familiarity with SPSS, IMPLAN, REMI, R, or other economic/statistical software programs.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau).
