Summary
The Data Engineer is responsible for developing, documenting, and testing enterprise software reports for our Viewpoint Construction Software division which provides an enterprise construction software solution including integrated accounting, project management and operations modules for mid-range & large contractors throughout the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs functional support on application reports written using SAP Business Objects, SQL Reporting Services, and Microsoft Transact SQL.
Performs implementation and consulting services gathering customer requirements to design and construct business application reports using SAP Business Objects.
Tracks the status of assigned project tasks to insure timely completion, maintains communication with stakeholders regarding progress of work, and notifies appropriate parties when open issues have been resolved.
Identifies opportunities for improving report development methods and procedures and communicates recommendations appropriately.
Actively promotes Viewpoint Product Business Intelligence Reporting services to staff and customers, providing estimates of BI Consulting Services for implementations and ongoing consulting engagements.
Competencies
Ability to learn and adapt to Viewpoint report development methodologies.
Understanding of data architecture and database schema.
Visualizes complex processes to identify and analyze key issues/requirements and recommend quality solutions. Able to participate in development of project estimates, decision analysis, and project schedules.
Ability to work with different data sources to create reports that visually present business metrics that can be easily understood and interpreted.
Effectively applies broad, in-depth, and up-to-date knowledge of pertinent development; project management; and technical, business, and professional issues.
Designs and manages processes that are in alignment with company standards for effective delivery of project goals.

Qualifications
Job Levels:
Career – Moderate skills with high level of proficiency. Typically requires 8 years of relevant experience to meet knowledge and proficiency standards.
Required:
BS degree in a field directly related to software development plus relevant technical experience in application design and programming or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to configure data classes and objects in SAP Business Objects Universe.
Ability to develop reports in SAP Business Objects (Designer and Reporter modules) and/or SQL Reporting Services.
Ability to write complex views in Transact SQL.
Preferred:
Experience developing and supporting accounting application reports.
Knowledge of construction industry operations.
Working Conditions
Work takes place in an office setting. It requires the ability to sit and work at a keyboard for extended periods of time and communicate with team members and customers by phone, computer, and video teleconferencing.
