DataOS is both an organization in Print Software and a big data platform. We are strategically aligned with the HP data strategy to enable and accelerate efficient delivery of business value from big data. Our platform provides the technology enablers, building blocks, operations, and data-as-a-service that power analytic insights across the Print business. We are the System of Record for Print product data, enable combining product and HP Business data, and are leading the evolution of big data technology.

We are looking for a Senior SW Developer/Data Engineer to join our Big Data development team. If you are passionate about data and technology, we are eager to talk to you. Our team is focused on establishing new cloud based data communication, archival, analysis, and reporting solutions for our consumer and commercial printing business units. The Data Engineer applies advanced subject matter knowledge to solve complex business issues and is regarded as a subject matter expert. Frequently contributes to the development of new ideas and methods. Works on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of multiple factors. Leads and/or provides expertise to functional project teams and may participate in cross-functional initiatives. Acts as an expert providing direction and guidance to process improvements and establishing policies. Frequently represents the organization to external customers/clients. Exercises significant independent judgment within broadly defined policies and practices to determine best method for accomplishing work and achieving objectives. May provide mentoring and guidance to lower level employees.

Responsibilities:

A data engineer on this team will design, develop, test, modify, deploy, and document solutions and services in both local and cloud based deployments of our Big Data infrastructure. The engineer will create solutions using current programming languages and tools and interact with team members, customers, and partners to define requirements. The engineer will also work with stakeholders and data scientists to analyze, extract, and report meaningful insights from data collected. Responsibilities include:

  • Leads multiple project teams of other software/data engineers and internal and outsourced development partners responsible for all stages of design and development for complex products and platforms, including solution design, analysis, coding, testing, and integration.
  • Manages and expands relationships with internal and outsourced development partners on applications design and development.
  • Reviews and evaluates designs and project activities for compliance with applications design and development guidelines and standards; provides tangible feedback to improve product quality and mitigate failure risk.
  • Provides domain-specific expertise and overall software leadership and perspective to cross-organization projects, programs, and activities.
  • Drives innovation and integration of new technologies into projects and activities in the software applications design organization.
  • Provides guidance and mentoring to less- experienced staff members.
  • Participates in analyzing requirements and high level designs.
  • Implements, tests, and maintains software modules created.
  • Participates in code reviews.
  • Gives input to management on task duration estimates, technical information, and issue resolution.
  • Provides domain-specific expertise and perspective to partners.
  • Maintains awareness of new tools, environments, and methodologies being used in Big Data space.
  • Recommends ways to improve data reliability, efficiency, and quality.
  • Develops processes for data modeling, mining, and reporting.
  • Researches opportunities for acquiring new data and new uses for existing data.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent.
  • Typically 6-10 years experience.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Extensive experience with multiple software applications design tools and languages.
  • Experience with source control management systems such as Git.
  • Experience working in an Agile software development environment.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Experience in overall architecture of software applications for products and solutions.
  • Designing and integrating software applications running on multiple platform types into overall architecture.
  • Evaluating forms and processes for software applications testing and methodology, including writing and execution of test plans, debugging, and testing scripts and tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; mastery in English and local language.
  • Ability to effectively communicate product architectures, design proposals and negotiate options at senior management levels.
