Senior Data Engineer

Summary of the role:

Are you the next Principal Data Engineer we are looking for?

• You will have accountability to maintain, extend and implement backend data persistance systems which meet Amadeus's product and platform business requirements
• You will work closely with peers in operations, product definition, architecture and engineering to make recommendations and designs based upon current operational and development technical abilities as well as corporate constraints
• You will be responsible in working with vendors and peers to construct engineering training plans needed for injection of new database technologies into the value streams to ensure successful adoption
• You will provide expert level design and best practice guidance for scrum teams, less senior database specialists and software engineers

In this role you’ll:

• Single point engineering technical leadership for all backend (data center, cloud, SQL/No SQL) data persistance systems
• Collaborate with TechOps and Architecture to select data platform technologies that align to the business and technical needs within the constraints of the department and business unit
• Both managed and independent research (POCs, white papers, studies) to stay current on the latest data tier capabilities and determining business and technical value for potential injection into the roadmap
• Collaborate with TechOps and Architecture to design and implement highly supportable software that contains robust instrumentation and tracing. Implement disaster recovery, security and encryption best practices
• Establish, evangelize and enforce best practice design and coding standards. Provide technical mentoring and assistance to team members and direct/lead other engineers. Provide technology operational support as new systems/platforms are rolled out
  

About the ideal candidate:

• Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related discipline
  • Minimum of 7 years of software engineering experience.
• Relevant Work Experience:
  • Good understanding of database principles and programming experience in SQL
  • Proficient with relevant technologies that may include SQL and NoSQL design and implementation
  • Expertise in enterprise and industry-scale solutions
  • Exceptional leadership, negotiation, and organizational skills
  • Remain at the forefront of the latest developments in the software field and have a pragmatic view of when to introduce new technologies into the product and solutions
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure IaaS and PaaS
  • Experience with Scrum/Agile development process
• Business Understanding:
  • Current or previous exposure in the hospitality industry:
  • CRS, CRM, Loyalty, PMS, S&C, RMS, Service Optimization, Distribution, HTNG
