The Role in Brief:
Senior Data Engineer
Opportunities based in Washington D.C, or open to remote work.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, test, deliver and maintain big data solutions used by millions of users
- Automate the data pipeline, including read, extract, transform, stage and load data to AWS tools and to be used by SaaS products
- Work with engineering teams, DevSecOps to integrate work into production systems.
- Own portions of the data pipeline, support operations by monitoring, researching and resolving performance and production issue
- Setup tools for data scientists to access quality data and pipeline for deploying ML models
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in computer science or related field and 5+ years of professional data engineering experience with applications in production
OR Master's Degree in computer science or related field and 3+ years of professional data engineering experience with multiple applications in production - Experience in building data intensive application, processing large amounts of structured and unstructured data, including integrating data from multiple sources
- Experienced with installation and configuration of data technologies, including AWS EMR, Glue and Apache Oozie, Airflow, Spark, Hive
- Programming experience, ideally in SQL, Python, or Java, and a willingness to learn new programming languages
- Make appropriate use of AWS operational best practices in areas such as security, storage, resource management, and networking.
- Knowledge of data cleaning, wrangling, visualization and reporting
- Written and verbal communication skills
Ideal Qualifications:
- Worked on solutions securing Personally Identifiable Information, FERPA/HIPAA compliant products.
- Prior experience with AWS CDK, CloudFormation, and Terraform/Ansible.
- Knowledge of instance families, Subnets, NAT gateway, security groups, and tags, etc.
- Experience with Amazon Web Services, CI/CD tools, Provision EMR clusters end-to-end.
- Prior experience with Data Warehouse, BI and AWS Data Lake formation is a plus
