POSITION SUMMARY / OBJECTIVE

The BI Data Engineer is an interdisciplinary individual on the Enterprise BI team who works closely with multiple stakeholders, both in business and Information Technology (IT), to ensure that the data which is most important to business analytics and the improvement of IFG Companies’ BI operations, is accessible and well-understood. As a BI Data Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and supporting new and existing highly efficient ELT processes and specialized Use case” driven BI Data Marts. You will work closely with our Information Technology (IT) data engineering and governance teams to implement solutions to answer complex questions and drive business decisions. You will apply proven communication skills, problem-solving skills, and knowledge of best practices related to designing, developing, and deploying business intelligence (BI/ELT) solutions.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

• Create and apply data design standards and assist in maintaining and documenting our BI data solutions that support reporting, visualizations, and data analytics across IFG Companies.
• Develop Semantic layer solutions used throughout the enterprise for reporting and analytic solutions based on business requirements.
• Assist the team in the design of efficient ETL processes to load and manage data, including a data quality assessment to ensure the quality of the source data will meet the information requirements, develop business rules, data mappings, and transformation rules.
• Ensure data integrity by implementing quality assurance practices.
• Identify and define both process and data improvements.

• Design and develop highly scalable and extensible data pipelines from internal and external sources.
• Participate in all phases of database development and maintenance lifecycle
• Support defect analysis and resolution
• Participate in data mapping documentation sessions.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

• 5+ years of experience in building data warehouse, Data Marts and Tabular Models in On-Prem and Azure Cloud.
• Hand on experience in Data development in Azure Cloud using Synapse, Azure, Data Factory (ADF).
• Experience and knowledge of P&C insurance industry and strong knowledge of insurance products preferred.
• Strong SQL Development experience including SQL Queries, Stored procedures, SSIS, etc.
• Experience in Power BI is preferred but not required.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience in ACORD data model is preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Physical demands are considered to be that of an office environment, climate controlled, with minimal physical exertion. This position requires prolonged sitting, ability to utilize a computer and interactions with others meetings or via phone.
