Data Engineer

The Dallas Mavericks are currently seeking an experienced data engineer to join our analytics team.

The data engineer position offers a unique opportunity to play an essential role with the Dallas Mavericks by creating data pipelines for the basketball operations staff. This position reports directly to the Director of Basketball Analytics.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Create and maintain databases, schemas, and data pipelines
• Implement, automate, and optimize methods of data collection, storage, and retrieval for all basketball data sources
• Create and maintain relevant documentation
• Research, evaluate, and integrate new data sources and technologies
• Parse very large datasets and transform into useful, digestible information
• Prepare data for analysis and collaborate on projects with data scientists, developers, and other members of the basketball analytics department
• Perform time sensitive tasks on request
• Fulfill other related duties and responsibilities

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in software engineering, computer engineering, computer science, information technology, information systems, or a related field
• 3+ Years of Experience as a data engineer
• Proficiency in SQL development and data warehousing technologies
• Proficiency in ETL architecture and development in a cloud-based environment (e.g., AWS)
• Experience collaborating with data scientists and providing data for analysis
• Experience working with very large amounts of data
• Experience in R or Python
• Experience automating unit-testing, quality assurance, and data quality monitoring
• Experience with Git version control
• Ability to complete demanding projects with tight deadlines
• Knowledge of basketball analytics, and the NBA more broadly, is a plus
• Ability to work evening, weekend, and holiday hours (as required by the NBA season)
