Job Role

Reporting to the Head of Technical Excellence, you as the Data Scientist will be supporting us with our ambitions in machine learning and data analytics. You’ll help to support the ambitious growth & profitability targets. We have recently launched an initiative to enhance the technical excellence in underwriting and pricing of all lines of businesses (Automotive, Travel, Assistance and Health).

As part of this initiative a team is developing state-of-the art data driven pricing and underwriting tools in cooperation with the actuarial teams, hence we need you with your high expertise in machine learning and data analytics.

What You Do

As the data scientist you will be responsible for the design and development of machine learning/ advanced statistical models applicable to underwriting or pricing in one of the lines of businesses:

  • Developing innovative and efficient solutions for pricing and underwriting based on internal and external data sources
  • Using machine learning for data analytics and data modelling incl. the use of AI
  • Developing prototypes in close cooperation with the underwriters and actuarial teams in the different lines of business
  • Supporting the IT team during the implementation of the developed models
  • Participating in internal & interdisciplinary projects
  • Collaborating with colleagues from international operating entities, hub functions as well as other Allianz Partners or Allianz Group departments on ad-hoc basis

What You Bring


  • University degree in mathematics, statistics or similar professional experience with focus on data sciences and AI
  • Insurance knowledge is an advantage
  • Excellent verbal and written English required; proficient German as well as additional foreign language skills are an advantage
  • Proficient user of R, Python, SQL or other statistic software as well as Microsoft Office packages (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Experience & Key Skills:

  • In depth expertise in the application of machine learning and data mining
  • Experience in developing prototypes of models in R, Python or other statistic software
  • Ability to take over responsibility, develop concepts and drive models into implementation
  • Willingness to think out-of-the box and search for external data to improve model quality
  • Experience in working in a fast-paced, dynamic and international environment
  • Intercultural sensitivity and international experience
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills (i.e. communication, presentation and negotiation)
