What does a Senior Data Engineer do?
As Data Engineer within the Business Area Wind at Vattenfall you are part of the Engineering department, which is the technical know-how center
and home of technical competences within Business Area (BA) Wind. They set the standards and
guidelines and are embedded within the projects to drive technical excellence through the whole project
lifecycle.
Working within the System & Maintenance Engineering department of Engineering, you are responsible
for the management and provision of data, as well as the standardization of the data and documentation
for the full (offshore) wind farm asset life cycle.
The Integrity – and Data Engineering team is the driver for digitalization in Offshore Engineering.
Your key responsibilities include:
- Design and implement data architecture, as well as build and maintain complex data pipelines;
- Design and implement functional and performance improvements on the data platform;
- Evaluate new technology and techniques in order to improve performance of the system;
- Initiate and manage set of complex topics with relevant stakeholders. This include Operation
& Maintenance (O&M), Data Analytics, SCADA and other Engineering disciplines,
Digitalization, IT, Document Management and other functions. As data engineer you ensure
the alignment of the technical area; - Guide on technical matters across portfolio while keeping the big picture in mind;
- Lead data integrity and data governance and related standardization initiatives;
- Mentor colleagues to develop competence in the team and share knowledge with
stakeholders.
As Senior Data Engineer you work in a team of 12 and will report to the Manager Integrity & Data
Engineering, who reports to the Head of Verification & Integration.
What do you bring?
As a Senior Data Engineer, you have the following qualifications:
- A master’s degree in engineering and/or IT with at least 5 years of relevant working experience.
Work experience in a similar position in the energy sector or a technical industry would be
beneficial; - A proven track record within data engineering is desirable including experience with asset
related data; - You have solid experience with architecture and handling big data sets, as well as experience
in SQL and NoSQL databases; - You have experience in data pipeline and workflow management tools, e.g. Nifi and Airflow;
- Furthermore, you have experience with Kafka, MS Azure, Kubernetes, APIs, microservices and
Python; - Your English skills are strong, both verbally and written.

Choice of Vattenfall locations at Amsterdam (preferred), Hamburg, Kolding, Stockholm or London.
Regular business trips to their core markets in which they operate are expected, when allowed by local
governments.
About the organization
Business Area Wind is responsible for Vattenfall’s Onshore and Offshore Wind as well as other
renewable activities such as solar PV and batteries. Today they develop, construct and operate wind
generation in Sweden, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands and the UK. In addition, they have a clear
strategy to develop their solar PV and battery operations further.
