Job Description

This role sits at the heart of the Data Science Services Low/No Code team. The team’s aims are to use low code/ no code tools, primarily but not limited to Power Platform, to develop a range of interactive apps and data visualisations, for a wide variety of customers across the department.

On a day-to-day basis you will work alongside other data scientists, data engineers and other IT professionals, using the analytical tools and environments in the Department (R, R Shiny, Power Platform) to help develop and deliver interactive products including interactive dashboards, analytical tools, as well as statistical analysis and insight.

You will collaborate with others to develop data science solutions and outputs supporting the organisation. You’ll also prepare and manipulate data, perform analytics and present these to stakeholders.

This role is particularly focussed on low code/no code solutions to problems and supporting the wider citizen developer community.

Person specification

An ideal candidate would be inquisitive, curious about data and keen to learn and develop. We are looking for someone who is aware of project delivery methods, ethical considerations as well as having knowledge of the technologies used. You’ll also be a good communicator, who is able to describe technical issues to non-technical stakeholders and conversely be able to understand and liaise with technical specialists.

Essential Criteria

  • Experience of the Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI) or experience building reports, models and dashboards in another software
  • Aware of differences between delivery methods, such as Agile and waterfall, and able to manage your contribution to tasks to fit in with the work of your wider team

  • Knowledge of coding/programming
  • Able to communicate effectively and present analysis and visualisations tailored to your audience

Selection process details

This vacancy is using Success Profiles (opens in a new window) , and will assess your Behaviours, Experience and Technical skills.

As part of the application process, you will be asked to submit your CV and complete a 750-word Personal Statement. 

You will be scored against both the CV and Personal Statement, and it is essential you complete both elements.

 CV - will consist of 2 elements

Personal Statement  - this should outline, in no more than 750 words:

Sift and Interviews

In the event of a large number of applications being received an initial sift will be carried out against the Personal Statement.

At full sift your CV and your Personal Statement will be assessed, with the successful candidates being invited to interview.

During the panel interview you will be asked questions assessing your experience, behaviours and the technical skill of Programming and build (data science).

This may include a short technical exercise or a scenario-based question. We will provide full details of this in advance of the interview to applicants who reach this stage of the recruitment process.
