Job Description


What You’ll Be Doing


You’ll be joining CIBC’s Private Wealth Management (PWM) Technology group within Wealth Management and will be an integral part of CIBC’s technology transformation. As the Senior Consultant, Application Development, you will be reporting to a Director. Working closely to act as the technical subject matter expert with oversight and accountability for Business Analysis, Development and QA for the Data Analytics & Reporting applications and services supporting the Private Wealth Management business group. With a strong focus on technology strategy, delivery approaches and business acumen, you’ll be providing subject matter expertise to Azure Cloud Engineering initiatives as they relate to the design, implementation and support of major public cloud technologies and automation tooling in a multi-platform environment. Deliver transformational changes at an Organizational level through processes and workflows. delivering technology changes and supporting requirements that align with both the Private Wealth Management line of business and the Wealth Management Technology (WMT) mandates.


How You’ll Succeed


  • Leadership & Communication – Collaborate with senior leaders across the company and make informed recommendations to enhance cloud related solutions. Weigh business needs against technology offerings, security concerns and provide recommendations to improve the user experience, which are practical and achievable.
  • Governance – Proactively contribute to governance initiatives in the development of company policies, audit requirements etc. Provide technical or business guidance to clients within and outside your own department.
  • Engineering / Development – Lead evaluation, selection and implementation of new and emerging products and techniques; support the development of business/technology proposals by evaluating implementation options. Provide automation expertise within core automation DevOPS tool chain and orchestration expertise in Public cloud, preferably with experience in Azure DevOps, Autosys and all aspects of Azure Network configuration through code, and familiarity with tools such as Git, JIRA, Confluence. Your understanding of Microsoft's Azure, Azure ARM Templating, Azure DevOps Pipeline implementation and other analytics and reporting components of Azure will be key to your success.
  • People Leadership – Lead and coach a team of Business Systems Analysts, Application Developers, and Application Support Specialists building on existing individual capabilities and bringing new talent into the team to meet business and technology objectives. Develop your team, maximizing their contributions, encourage out of the box thinking and professional growth. Create a positive work environment through being an effective role model and by championing CIBC’s mission, vision and values, ensuring compliance with policies, standards, guidelines and controls, applying policies fairly and consistently so employees understand what to expect. Manage performance by providing fair and accurate formal and informal feedback, identifying and removing obstacles to performance and by explaining how performance expectations align with business priorities.
  • Relationship Management – Work closely with clients and business partners to develop, test, plan and implement application enhancements. Become familiar for all CIBC enterprise development practices, standards and governance controls for other CIBC groups and technology vendors. Advise on emerging technical trends in the industry and at CIBC, and ensure application services best practices reflect appropriate technological developments for a competitive business position. Collaborate and support the other PWM Technology teams in the delivery of technology modernization that address the strategic and operational business partner agenda and the CIBC technology strategy. Analyze technical risk to support business recommendations and make adjustments to internal operations as necessary to improve performance of the Application Delivery and support teams.


Who You Are


  • You can demonstrate experience with: 5+ years' experience as a Data engineer, preferably in Azure Databricks.
  • You are a skilled Data Engineer to lead the development of our new data analytics platform.
  • Able to write clean/scalable/secure code and need a good understanding of Azure and Databricks. We work heavily in Azure and need this person to have a good grasp of modern Azure Tools like Databricks and DataFactory to build orchestration pipelines.You have led the creation of a data strategy and associated roadmap and led execution across multiple technologies and projects.
  • Experience in most of the following: Writing clean/scalable code and working with Databricks, Using Azure Data Factory to build orchestration pipelines, Working with Azure DevOps and CI/CD pipelines, Pyspark, Python, SQL, Power BI, Data Lake.
  • You will utilize your breadth of knowledge to identify opportunities to optimize, modernize, retire or consolidate a large number of applications spanning numerous technologies.
  • You are a seasoned people leader with the ability to coach and help develop other team members.
  • You have a solid understanding of: Managing vendor applications, roadmaps, testing, and implementation. Designing and implementing applications for cloud. Strong knowledge of Agile methodology and experience working in a Scrum team.
  • It’s an Asset if: You have good understanding of the Wealth Management business and have worked in a capacity supporting the business.
  • You have a degree/diploma in: Computer Science, Engineering, and/or a related field.
