We are offering an outstanding opportunity for a Data Scientist with expertise in biomedical Natural Language Processing (NLP) and its applications towards drug discovery and development to work with multidisciplinary teams of scientists across departments in the organization dedicated to researching methods for the analysis of data and using these methods to actively drive science and jointly shape our future portfolio.

Your Impact


These responsibilities capture a portion of what your work will look like:


  • By combining technologies within the space of NLP text-mining, artificial intelligence, mechanistic modelling and knowledge graphs you will help scientists in early research to extract valuable insights from structured/unstructured text, rapidly and effectively, to provide decision support
  • Establish and nurture effective partnerships with a wide range of researchers, clinicians, internal IT specialists and external partners to help define and answer scientific questions
  • Partner with other computational scientists to ensure that NLP solutions are successfully integrated in efforts to generate powerful insights
  • Propose and prototype appropriate informatics solutions and rigorously validate scientific models for answering clinically relevant questions, and collaborate with technical teams to optimise the solutions towards higher performance, robustness, and scalability to optimally support (pre-)clinical decision making
  • Ensure Roche methodology remains current with respect to state of the art; proactively identify, assess, and internalize promising methods and tools from external vendors and the public domain
  • The position allows you to build internal and external collaborations, provide guidance for others within your domain of expertise, explore novel data sets and methodologies, and participate in strategy discussions

Qualifications:


  • You have a university degree, preferably a PhD, in Computer Science, Chemistry, Biology, applied Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering or similar and several years of professional experience in life science or research informatics
  • You are experienced with software tools and code libraries for NLP, working knowledge of biomedical knowledge graphs, the construction and use thereof
  • Deep knowledge of biomedical and clinical ontologies for mining structured/unstructured text in the literature and/or Electronic Health Records or similar
  • You are a quick learner, inspired by curiosity, who enjoys entering into new areas to build expertise and courageously and creatively takes initiative to see your ideas implemented through team work in a dynamic customer oriented environment
  • You have advanced knowledge and several years of experience with multi-modal medical image data analysis including the application of AI/ML/DL and statistical data analysis methods, and a profound understanding of their advantages/drawbacks for solving a given problem
  • You are attracted by the challenges of managing informatics projects, and navigate consciously and fluidly between strategic conceptual thinking and detail-oriented planning, prioritisation, and task management
  • You bring a broad experience of algorithm development and end-to-end informatics solution delivery using both open source and commercial solutions
  • Your profile is rounded off by having very good presentation and communication skills in English
