Job description
As a PPG Data Engineer, and member of our Digital Organization, you'll contributing to specific business projects applying machine learning, computer vision, sophisticated statistical analysis, data mining, optimization, and data visualization methods to drive product and service development that lie at the intersection of both digital and physical sciences. You will make recommendations on the data and provide insights into seeking rapid solutions through agile teams / sprints.
The Data Engineer Specialist is responsible for integrating data science into our everyday business culture. She/he establishes data science methods, tools, and rigor that will be the foundation for our data science practice. Promotes data science and data management with business to raise awareness of technology, techniques, possibilities, and capabilities. The data scientist is the specialist in developing algorithms and calculations that will move PPG into the world of predictive analytics, AI, machine learning, etc. Additionally, Data Scientist will liaise with the Citizen Data Scientist in various Business areas to ensure governance and best practices are followed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Devising and applying advanced AI/ML models and algorithms to mine the stores of data.
- Evaluate AI/ML readiness and provide data acquisition recommendations to bridge gaps
- Visualize data to discover and communicate solutions and opportunities.
- Application of advanced statistics on scientific problems.
- Employ Machine learning sub fields such as:
- Text mining / natural language processing
- Multivariate data analysis and clustering based models
- Use of Neural Networks in scientific fields including deep learning techniques
- Image processing & analysis
- Multi-objective optimization
- Stay ahead of trends in applied machine-learning, computer vision and statistics.
- Collaborate with external partners to bring groundbreaking results to PPG operations.
- Work with global-team to translate innovative ideas into deployable digital products and services with quantifiable business impact.
Qualifications:
- BS in computer science, engineering, physics, data science, chemistry or equivalent.
- 5+ yrs of demonstratable proficiency in machine learning, with experience in unstructured/cognitive learning algorithms.
- Proficiency with Python
- Experience using data analysis techniques to solve business related problems regardless of industry.
Preferred Qualifications:
- MS in Data Science, Predictive Analytics, Machine Learning or applicable technical field of study.
- Experience with Matlab, R and/or other statistical programming languages applying the appropriate statistical procedures to problems.
- Experience with pioneering deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras or comparable technologies
- Six Sigma / sigma logic methodologies expertise (Yellow belt and above)
- Experience working with both structured and distributed data technologies ranging from SQL to Hadoop, Hive and Spark.
- Experience with agile development methodology
