Job Summary

This position works within a data science team, and with stakeholders throughout the company, to generate understanding, strategy and guide key decision making based on data. They spend their time doing practical data science work to transform complex data sets into pragmatic insights which they provide through skilled story-telling. They are expected to be a unique hybrid of data hackers, business analysts, communicators and mentors that maintain a strong customer focus and values pragmatism over perfection.

Key Responsibilities

• Transform large, complex datasets into pragmatic, actionable insights
• Prioritize impactful business problems, translate them into feasible data problems and solve them effectively by applying suitable statistical data analysis and modeling methods
• Identify, source and organize data required for the solution and prepare it in a way that makes it fit for use
• Ability to identify key stakeholders and manage them proactively through effective communication and addressing their needs
• Uses data visualization skills and storytelling to drive actions from stakeholders
• Design and interpret quantitative experiments to objectively guide key business decision making
• Have the capacity to thrive in our fast-paced environment, adapt quickly and take ownership of their work
• Challenge ideas and methods while working together with talented, highly skilled team members. Ensure quality of their own and others’ work, by making them reproducible and replicable and by validating through peer review
• Experience solving real problems using data mining techniques and with statistical rigor
• Convey complex analysis results clearly and with conviction to all levels of stakeholders
• Responsible for data management related Data Governance processes as defined in the Data Governance Framework (E.g. monitoring of data quality, management of data lineage, and maintenance of logical data model).

PhD, or equivalent experience in a quantitative field (computer science, physics, mathematics, engineering, bioinformatics, etc.)

Requirements Of Special Knowledge/skills

Minimum 3 years of experience in a relevant role

Experience solving real problems using data mining techniques and with statistical rigor

Strong technical skills regarding data analysis, statistics, machine learning and programming. Strong working knowledge of Hadoop, Spark, SQL, Python and/or R.

Excellent communication skills

Strong skills in translating business problems into data problems

Strong data visualization skills

Strong skills in storytelling with data

Strong knowledge of statistics and experimentation

Strong knowledge of data management (engineering, data pipelines, workflows)

Strong knowledge of the possibilities and limitations of different types of data analysis and/or data science modelling
