Your Role and Responsibilities
As a Data Engineer you will gather and collect data, store it, perform batch processing or real-time processing.
Data engineers may work closely with data architects (to determine what data management systems are appropriate) and data scientists (to determine which data are needed for analysis), and wrestle with problems associated with database integration.
You will design, model, and implement data structures and topic event schemas in Kafka (normalization and transformation), and understand implications of data upstream and downstream.

• Ability to communicate complex situations clearly and simply by listening actively and conveying difficult messages in a positive manner
• A passion for innovative ideas, coupled with the ability to understand and assimilate different points of view
• Experience in database and database structures
• Demonstrated ability to evaluate clients’ needs and develop solutions to address those needs

The IBM Client Innovation Center is an in-bound delivery model where we will support our clients from our Buffalo center. However, some travel is expected and all candidates must be willing and able to travel to meet our client needs across the US. Travel is typically related to knowledge transfer and training at the client site (Monday thru Friday). You are expected to travel up to 75% of the time. This is a traditional office position. You must live in, or be willing to relocate to, Buffalo, NY. This is not a work from home position.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise
Thorough understanding of Kafka, producer / consumer / topic technologies
Ability to innovate on the latest technologies
2+ yrs of Docker and Openshift experience
2+ years of Experience with UML and Rational Software Architect

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

• Master's Degree
• Experience with BIAN, ISO, BDW/IFW, AVRO
