Job Description


This role is part of the Data Enablement team, a new group within Renaissance working to empower people with quick and easy access to the data they need to do their part in achieving Renaissance's mission of accelerating learning for all students and adults of all ability levels and ethnic and social backgrounds, worldwide. As a data engineer and data champion, you will have the opportunity to develop a deep understanding of how the company works and apply your skills and domain expertise to create and evolve data structures and tools that enable Data Champions throughout the company to further Renaissance’s mission.

In this role, you will:

  • Using dbt and Snowflake (https://www.snowflake.com/), create, maintain, and extend SQL data models in one or more data domains that effectively support the analytic needs of stakeholders across the company
  • Create and maintain resources for internal Data Champions (documentation, training modules, how-to-videos, starter Tableau workbooks, support channels, office hours, etc.) that enable them to understand and use the data models effectively.
  • Work with leaders directly on ad-hoc analytic projects that fall outside the scope of other Data Champions.
  • Provide/receive constructive feedback to/from your peer data engineers and data analysts that improves the usefulness of the broader Data Enablement team code base and Tableau report base

Qualifications


For this role, you must have:

  • Problem solving skills: you have never met a logic or data problem you haven’t loved
  • Abundant curiosity: you have a track record of teaching yourself new data-related skills and of learning from others
  • Customer service orientation: you delight in enabling others even more than providing answers
  • Advanced SQL skills: you have been known to dream in SQL
  • Detail orientation: you are driven to find and fix bugs and data inconsistencies
  • Domain experience in at least one of the following areas: marketing, sales, customer success, services and support, product usage, academic assessments, or finance in a software-as-a-service business
  • Track record of showing up for your teammates and the mission with humility and generosity

Bonus points for:

  • Experience working with our primary technologies, Snowflake and dbt
  • Experience using Tableau to create reports, data tools, and for exploratory analysis
  • Experience working on a team that uses agile development practices (sprints, scrum, Jira, etc.)
  • Experience teaching in informal or formal settings

Salary Range: $60,000 -$135,000 This range is based on national market data and may vary by location.
