Expanding financial service start-up specialising in Renewable Energy require a Data Scientist to support strategic analytics and decisioning in the UK energy markets and maintain competitive advantage. You will work on cutting-edge forecasts, tools and strategies, working with Senior Data Scientists, Developers and the Leadership team.
Responsibilities:
Financial Analysts and Data Scientists constantly come up with new ideas and hypotheses that need to be investigated, tested and implemented. This newly created role requires a talented individual to join them and help turn ideas into tools that can aid strategic decisions and help optimise business processes.
What you will be doing:
- Do the research. Read documents, reports, regulations, etc. Speak to industry experts, phone and email people to find answers.
- Applying and developing the key experience and skills (identified below) in a live and collaborative environment
- You will identify, extract, clean and analyse data to build strong foundations for tool development.
- You will eventually turn your knowledge and the data into tools and services that can be used to directly aid trading decisions and back office applications.
- Some tools are forecasts, some are unique presentations of live data and some tools are reports containing new insights for analysts and senior management
- Eventually, you'll contribute with your own ideas.
Experience and Skills Required:
- Great R, Julia or Python programming skills.
- Experience with a database language, ideally SQL.
- Experience using version control.
- Good with numbers and strong analytical skills.
- Experience working in a live production environment.
- Experience working in the energy sector or in a financial services company.
- Not afraid to dig deep into energy regulations, rules, research reports, publications, etc.
- Great attention to detail and motivation required.
- Not afraid to pick up the phone and ring people. And follow-up on people when they don't get back to you. You'll need initiative combined with excellent focus to deliver your goals.
- You won't easily take no for an answer. You must be willing to persevere until you get the information you need.
- A desire to understand everything to the smallest detail; and to understand the complete picture.
- Excellent communication skills as you'll have to liaise regularly with colleagues in different areas in the company.
