Position Overview

Under the direction of the Manager of the OSI Clinic, the Data Analyst: Supports administrative and clinical databases and generates various reports from them. Analyzes datasets to ensure the validity of both standard and customized reports. Reviews data to comment on operational trends, for example administrative burden on clinical staff, or what types of patients experience longer delays in care. On request, develops customized statistical reports with clear but minimal guidance. Routinely analyzes databases for data quality issues, and addresses with the manager or specific staff accordingly. Identifies systematic issues in data systems and helps develop and implement solutions. Works directly with partner and funding agencies to develop special report requests. Able describe and comment on the practical limitations of data collection in a busy clinical setting.

Experience

  • Three years in the management of databases, data entry, the maintenance and cleaning of data, and working with professional teams to collect data and create specialized reports.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Post-secondary training in any of: health information, statistics, or research methods.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Previous certification in Health Information may be an asset.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Knowledge of computer systems and common office software.
  • Able to analyze datasets for quality and potential reporting structures.
  • Familiar with basic statistical calculations and reporting.
  • Understanding of data collection and report generation in a clinical setting.
  • Personal Health Information Act (PHIA), Protection of Persons in Care Act, Mental Health Act, Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS), Principles of Routine Practices (Universal Precautions) and other legislated acts.
  • Principles of collaborative practice.
  • Demonstrates effective oral and written communications skills.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Ability to perform independently and as a member of the staff team.
  • Demonstrates leadership ability.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing situations.
  • Ability to function in a demanding and stressful environment.
