Business Job Title: Data Scientist – Overturetm (Hybrid Position)

Job Summary: This newly created position will be part of the Overturetm smart indoor air quality development team as the analytical expert that utilizes the power of IoT and effective analytics techniques to interpret data and provide insights to better understand how our customers interact with our products while helping to improve their experience.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assess, clean, analyze, manage, and visualize data to identify opportunities, insights, anomalies, and trends
  • Strategic problem solver that will automate existing manual data workflows to drive key innovation and system performance improvements
  • Access large (terabyte/petabyte) data sets and utilize programming languages to organize into charts or models to be quickly understood by viewers without needing to involve them in the more granular aspects of an analysis
  • Perform predictive data modeling to test different scenarios and, by applying statistics and mathematics, forecast the likeliest outcome
  • Design and implement custom reporting dashboards that can track key metrics and provide actionable insights based upon key stakeholder requirements
  • Work closely with internal and external technical leads, engineering teams, and architecture developers to understand project needs/requirements and provide the technical expertise with data and analytical tools
  • Identify new opportunities to apply machine learning to business processes to improve efficiency and effectiveness and to continuously improve the quality of the data gathered while being able to predict the outcomes of future datasets
  • Set best practices for collecting data, use of analysis tools, and interpreting data
  • Deploy data tools such as Python, R, SAS, or SQL in data analysis
  • Manage and contain costs and capability to store, process, and analyze the wealth of data that the Overturetm IoT devices produce
  • Determine the right balance between storing enough data, analyzing it quickly enough, and the ability to scale these two processes within the business
  • Manage data to ensure historical comparisons can meet the stakeholder requirements
  • Ensure data is handled appropriately within the proper context of privacy and cybersecurity
  • Communicate recommendations to other teams and senior staff based upon analysis outcomes
  • Research and stay current with relevant innovations in the data science field

Job Requirements:

  • BS/MS in a quantitative field (Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Applied Math, Mathematical Statistics, Analytics)
  • 7+ years’ experience in Data Analytics with a strong focus on IoT
  • Expertise in all phases of data science, from initial discovery through cleaning, model selection, validation and deployment
  • Understanding of mathematical statistics, machine learning, predictive modeling
  • Experience defining, developing, and testing data ingestion pipelines with terabyte/petabyte size datasets
  • The ability to share ideas and results both verbally and in writing
  • Familiarity with a wide variety of data sources, including databases, APIs and standard data formats
  • Knowledge of ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) data warehousing
  • An aptitude for communicating insights and collaborating across teams/organizations
  • Knowledge of IoT platforms (PTC Thingworx, AWS) and analytics platforms (Tableau, Power BI, etc.)
  • Experience with programming languages (Python, R, SQL, SAS, etc.)
  • Exceptional technical presentation skills with the ability to communicate qualitative and quantitative analysis and insights in an easy to understand way
  • Experience implementing solutions that leverage artificial intelligence/machine learning
  • Experience estimating technical level of effort

Physical Requirements:

  • Primarily seated work in an indoor office or laboratory environment
