August 29, 2021, President Biden directed the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to lead and coordinate ongoing efforts across the federal government to support vulnerable Afghans, including those who worked alongside us in Afghanistan for the past two decades, as they safely resettle in the United States. At the President’s direction, the Secretary of Homeland Security is working with representatives from across the government to coordinate our response and ensure unity of effort.

To lead the effort in support of Operation Allies Welcome, DHS established a Unified Coordination Group (UCG). The UCG reports directly to the Secretary of Homeland Security and coordinates the implementation of a broad range of services who are neither U.S. citizens nor lawful permanent residents. This support includes initial processing at pre-designated U.S. military bases prior to being connected with non-governmental organizations for resettlement into communities. The work of the UCG is undertaken in close collaboration with partners in state and local government, non-governmental organizations, and the private sector.

As of February 15, 2022, Operation Allies Welcome has entered Phase 2 operations which will support the resettlement of approximately 2,000 vulnerable Afghans into the United States each month through September 2022 when normal immigration processes will resume for this population.

We are seeking a Data Analyst Specialist to assist with this important initiative. The location for this effort is at Camp Springs, MD and tentatively scheduled to last through October2022.

Please note, required hours for each location are the following:

  • Camp Springs, MD (Monday – Friday 8:00am ET – 5:00pm ET)

Responsibilities:

  • Supports oversite efforts associated with data collection/analysis and information generation for several high-visibility electronic and hard-copy products
  • Assists in ensuring all stakeholders are informed of the latest operational picture and executing ad hoc requests
  • Support the creation and management of daily situation updates, process flow charts, service trackers, situation reports, immediate reporting requirements, and other necessary reports and documents
  • Liaise with multiple agency stakeholders to collect, synthesize and extrapolate data
  • Support the Federal team in providing in-person situation updates in various meetings
  • Support weekly meetings with site stakeholders and liaison between Unified Coordination Group, Safe Haven and other agency, contractor, and non-governmental organizational stakeholders
  • Provide ad-hoc support to operations and medical branches for data-related needs, discuss operations and medical operations concerns and report feedback to respective sections
  • Collect, record, forward report critical information reports to higher authorities to include medical emergencies, law enforcement incidents, and other major incidents and issues
  • Support tracking and/or briefing of federal coordinator and leadership of incoming inclement weather events
  • Support tracking and/or briefing of federal coordinator and leadership on major media, economic or cultural events that could impact operations
  • Assist in compiling and confirming information for daily situation report
  • Mitigate data and reporting conflicts between agencies to ensure accurate operational picture
  • Support the establishment and management of information display board to include briefings, safety bulletins, weather forecasts, maps of location; organizational charts and work assignments

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • +5 years’ experience, desired experience in a fast-paced environment with the following:
    • Organizing and preparing information to draft situational reports
    • Utilizing data collection methods, such as document review, fact finding, and investigative techniques to support decision making.
  • Active DHS Public Trust security clearance or eligibility.
  • Cultural awareness (sensitive to the newcomers’ traumatic experiences, cultural traditions, and recent arrival to the United States)
  • Desired skills: Dari/Pashto language skills
