About the Team
The Communications and Marketing team is responsible for building and protecting the College Board reputation, overseeing organization's communications efforts, and growing the organization’s three highest priority areas: AP, SAT Suite, and BigFuture, which are designed to increase educational access and opportunity for all students. We are a close knit, dedicated team with a track record of success in promoting the work of the College Board to a variety of audiences, including students, parents, educators, policymakers, the media, member organizations and staff.
About the Opportunity
As a Senior Data Engineer Developer, you will be a critical in ensuring our back-end data infrastructure is fully and effectively tested, developed, and enhanced to deliver on the evolving needs of product and marketing stakeholders. You’ll ensure we provide an excellent customer experience to our college-bound student audience across all of our digital channels and platforms, with a key focus on our BigFuture college search product. You will work closely with our website and digital marketing functions to ensure that cross-platform data (performance/engagement, behavioral, demographic, etc.) is accurately and effectively sourced, integrated, and consumable by all relevant internal functions. As an individual contributor, your role is central to ensuring that students have positive, relevant, and useful interactions across all digital touchpoints with College Board and BigFuture.
In this role you will:
Implement (60%)
  • Leverage your knowledge of database infrastructure and best practices as well as related coding languages and SDLC to develop and implement technical enhancements, especially within and around Salesforce Marketing Cloud (SFMC) and Adobe Experience Cloud
  • Build, extract, and integrate large, complex sets of data that meet non-functional and functional business requirements
  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements including re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, optimizing data delivery, and automating manual processes
  • Develop and test integrations for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from various data sources
  • Troubleshoot and rectify data and integration issues across the digital marketing, web, and analytics platforms and infrastructure, identifying root causes and developing sustainable forward-thinking technical solutions in a timely manner
  • Leverage Adobe Experience Cloud to create, execute, QA, validate, and troubleshoot data-related elements and tagging functionality to enhance analytics, reporting, and personalization/segmentation capabilities and deliver on business needs
  • Manage, enhance, and enforce data hygiene practices
Collaborate (40%)
  • Translate marketing needs into technical implementation strategies for data and application development
  • Develop AMPscript coding within SFMC email templates and optimize data sources, extensions, and structures within SFMC to support the email marketing team’s personalization efforts
  • Source and make data available and consumable for marketing applications
  • Work with SFMC and Adobe Experience Cloud users and data consumers to ensure that they are fully and consistently enabled with relevant, usable, and available data and insights to deliver on business needs
  • Work with stakeholders including Data, Design, Product, and Executive teams to support their data infrastructure needs and assist with data-related technical issues
About You
You have:
  • 3+ years working as an independent contributor in database engineering and development for marketing applications
  • A proven track record of delivering data infrastructure and capabilities enhancements and integrations to improve marketing efficiency and effectiveness
  • Strong coding skills especially in Java, API development (e.g., XML, JSON) as well as in AMPscript programming for advanced SFDC applications.
  • High degree of competency in developing for, and optimizing, Adobe Target and Analytics, including tagging, testing, QA, and reporting
  • Expertise in developing, testing, improving, and maintaining new and existing data sources
  • Excellent troubleshooting and creative problem-solving skills, with a drive to discover and understand root causes and provide forward-thinking solutions
  • Enthusiasm and passion for continual improvement, with a propensity to continuously test and learn cutting-edge technical approaches and best practices
  • Strong organization and prioritization skills and the proven ability to move forward multiple projects in concert, both independently and as a member of the team with strong attention to detail
  • Bachelor's degree in the field of computer science, systems engineering, or comparable practical experience
  • A passion for supporting educational and career opportunities for millions of students
  • Willingness to travel 2-3 times per year or <10% for in-person meetings/gatherings
