We currently have an outstanding opportunity for a Senior Data Scientist to drive customer applications, support the Sartorius sales teams and feedback customer needs into development of new solutions. As a Senior Data Scientist, you will have a strong customer focus to help drive innovation and growth. Combining your experience in the Biopharma or Pharma industry with knowledge of applied statistics, such as MVDA, DOE, MSPC, PAT, QbD, Model Predictive Control (MPC), AI/Machine Learning, and mechanistic modeling.
This position is based in North America. You will be home-based, with expected travel of approximately 30%. Preference will be given to locations in Pacific or Mountain time zones.
What you will accomplish together with us:
- Assisting customers in solving business-related problems using advanced data analytics and expertise in the biotechnological area
- Supporting implementation of advanced analytics for industrial processes and PAT solutions
- Addressing customer needs by analyzing large amounts of data and building data-driven models using the Umetrics software suite
- Initiating, leading, and driving customer projects from a technical perspective
- Supporting Sartorius sales teams as a subject matter expert (SME) in pre- and post-sales activities related to Data Analytics and the Umetrics software suite
- Act as SME point-of-contact, supporting customers and Sartorius-internal analytics projects
- Coordinate work with data scientists and business colleagues in other regions for accounts with a global presence
- Training customers on the use of Umetrics software suite
- Supporting marketing & product development activities
- Maintaining contact with customers to assure project momentum and discover additional opportunities
- Creating whitepapers, technical documents, application notes, reports, and new training materials
- Reporting customer feedback on software to support development of next generation tools
- Attending and presenting at conferences, seminars, and forums
- Developing and cultivating strong relationships with external and internal stakeholders
- Being a key member of a talented, international team of data scientists
What will convince us:
- Minimum of a master’s degree in a relevant field (engineering, life sciences, informatics, etc.); Ph.D. preferred
- Minimum of five years’ work experience within Biopharma or Pharma preferred; relevant experience within chemical, food, or medical device industries considered
- Minimum of five years’ working knowledge of applied statistics, such as MVDA, DOE, MSPC, PAT, QbD, Model Predictive Control (MPC), AI/Machine learning, and mechanistic modeling
- Previous experience with Umetrics software (MODDE®, SIMCA®, SIMCA®-online) preferred
- Bioprocess knowledge preferred
- Working knowledge of Python and/or other scripting language a plus
- Data wrangling experience preferred
- Knowledge of data historians, MES, and LIMS systems a plus
- Previous experience with developing data analytics solutions for on-line spectroscopic sensors and/or process chromatography is a plus
- Previous work experience in a GMP/FDA-regulated environment preferred
- Teaching, consulting, and project management skills preferred
- Excellent communication, organization, and presentation skills required
- Talent for effectively combining technical skills, business strategy, and a “customer-first” attitude required
- Comfortable working independently from a home office and willingness to travel (~30%)
