About the role
As we enter our next stage of growth, we are looking for a Data Scientist to enhance our team by building machine learning models, guiding company experiments and using your skills to improve and innovate our products!
Our data team is embedded in the heart of the company. In this role you’ll have the chance to make a substantial impact, improving the whole business by helping with product design and innovation. We already have some ML models in production and need your help to add more. We also want you to use your expertise to design experiments to help us prove (and disprove) our various hypotheses.
The insurance industry is complex & fascinating so having a keen interest in learning about our business domain is key! You’ll take pride in great analysis and will write reliable code, and be unafraid to get stuck in and learn new techniques and skills. What you’ll get up to
We’re looking for someone to join the current data science function and create capacity for the team to expand its reach into new areas including:

Growing revenue by building propensity models that can be used to set optimal prices, improve marketing, retain customers, and more

Use NLP to extract data from documents with varied structures

Use unsupervised ML techniques to categorise/group documents

Produce ad-hoc deep dives to assist product and marketing teams using data science techniques

Guide company experimentation by running our “Lab” and assisting with statistical analysis and experiment design

Build data products (Python applications) to democratise the use of ML and integrate with our website for live optimisation
Requirements
We don’t like to put people into boxes, but it’s safe to say you have:

Experience processing data with Python or similar (ideally, knowledge of packages like scikit-learn, pandas, numpy, xgboost, catboost, gensim, nltk)

The ability to use SQL to query large datasets

Good understanding of classification, regression and clustering techniques e.g. GLMs, GBMs, NNs, KMeans, Gaussian Mixture Modelling, Topic Modeling etc

Exposure to DBT, Snowflake and application frameworks like FastAPI and Flask would be a plus

Degree in Mathematics, Physics, Statistics or similar

2+ years experience using data science techniques in a professional capacity

Have built ML models from scratch

Plenty of experience explaining ML concepts as well as sharing results and insights

It’s beneficial if:
You’re experienced in the insurance domain

Understand optimisation techniques like Bayesian Optimisation

In return, we offer you:
A competitive salary and the ability to grow your career at the UK’s leading Insurtech

An amazing team and founders, supportive board and investors

25 days holiday - so there’s plenty of time for work, rest and play

Vitality private health and dental insurance

Great pension (up to 10% on top of your salary)

Cycle to work scheme

Latest Apple tech gear

Fun, modern and informal office environment with regular team social events

Central London location with the best lunch in town (Borough market!)

Please note - due to COVID-19, we’re currently working predominantly remotely. In the long term, we’ll be embracing a hybrid way of working that allows us to connect and collaborate in person as well as harnessing the flexibility working remotely allows some of the time.
