The Hartford's Special Investigations Forensic Analytics team is seeking a Forensic Data Engineer Analyst (Fraud Detection) responsible for fraud, waste and abuse detection, asset creation and analytics. Solutions developed by this multi-faceted team will leverage a wide range of business data which include underwriting, claims, operations, risk engineering, and digital analytics.
The ideal candidate will have insurance operations knowledge as well as analytics skills and be able to work independently to access numerous data warehouses, data marts, cloud storage and outside sources through multiple platforms. Statistical knowledge and training is helpful. Experience with cloud data tools (SQL Server, Snowflake, Dremio, Dataiku, python, R Studio etc.) is highly desired and will play a major part in selection for this role.
Responsibilities:
- Create data assets and analytics to drive interactions (claims, policy purchases, organized activity etc.) with concerns of potential fraud to investigators in The Hartford’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU).
- Strong analytical, critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills.
- Ability to create visuals which communicate complicated analytics concepts in relatable terms for associates and leadership of all levels.
- Provide technical mentoring and coaching to forensics team members in the use of cloud data tools for analysis – (SQL Server, Python, R-Studio, Jupyter Lab).
- Prepare charts, tables and diagrams to assist in analyzing problems, utilizing various business, scientific, data engineering and mathematical techniques.
- Use existing tools (SAS, TOAD, MSBI, Dremio, Snowflake, Dataiku - with programming logic) to provide highly qualified leads for review based on unique concepts in response to sudden shifts in claim volume and customer behaviors. SharePoint development experience is a plus.
- Researches and evaluates alternative solutions through occasional proof of concept projects explorations and recommends course of action.
- Participate in development, testing, and providing guidance on fraud model development and new platform POC’s.

Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in accessing or design and development of large-scale Data assets, data warehouses, data marts or data processes
- 3+ years of experience leveraging cloud-based data lakes, analytic solutions, and tools (AWS/Snowflake – Python and RStudio for ACE and third-party data Repository etc.)
- Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems, Finance, Statistics, Computer Science, or other related field Understanding of when open-source tools can and should be leveraged to solve problems over traditional data approaches.
- Familiarity with traditional Database technologies such as Oracle & SQL server.
- Hands-on experience with AWS services. Certification preferred.
- Experience or knowledge of working in an Agile team structure.
- Property & Casualty insurance industry knowledge is highly desired in this role.
- Able to influence diverse teams and building strong business relationships.
- Solid planning and organization skills/requiring self-prioritization. Anticipate problems, determine completion dates, able to delegate.
- Exposure to enterprise database design and administration.
- Capability to understand new technology, go deep into capabilities and make a recommendation on adoption and best use cases.
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$90,320 - $162,720
