Summary
As a principal data scientist, you will lead the development and execution of a data-driven strategy to disrupt the credit worthiness process for medium-small enterprises backed by one of the most trustworthy banking groups in Germany, the DZ BANK Gruppe.
You will work with the data platform, product, business, and engineering teams to identify, acquire, and integrate multiple data sources to inform and refine your model development. You will also develop, improve, and deploy machine learning models to predict credit risk; and become the stakeholder in implementing and maintaining the necessary infrastructure to support these models. In addition to your technical expertise, you will also play a key role in communicating your insightful findings and recommendations to the business & product stakeholders and the data platform counterparts. This high-impact, high-visibility role requires strong leadership skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, constantly evolving environment.
Your role and contribution
- Lead the development and execution of a data-driven strategy to disrupt the credit scoring process for medium-small enterprises
- Identify, acquire multiple data sources to inform and develop the models with the support of the Data Platform team and data engineers
- Own the end-to-end cycle of the data models, including development, maintenance, preparation for production, and conscious improvement, as well as the performance of the models from the business KPIs viewpoint
- Act as a stakeholder of the Data Platform to Implement and maintain the necessary infrastructure to support machine learning models
- Communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders and partners
- Serve as a leader and mentor for a team of data scientists
- Work effectively in a fast-paced, constantly evolving environment
- Demonstrate strong leadership skills and the ability to drive results in a high-impact, high-visibility role

Your profile
- A Master's or Ph.D. in a quantitative field such as data science, computer science, statistics, statistics, mathematics or proven relevant experience
- At least five years of experience in the credit scoring or financial services industry, developing/improving credit scoring systems
- Extensive experience with machine learning and data analysis, including experience developing and deploying machine learning models
- Strong programming skills, particularly in Python
- Experience working with large, complex datasets, and SQL
- Experience with distributed computing and data pipelines
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for a non-technical audience
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to foster close connection with peers and stakeholders
- A track record of delivering production-grade results in a fast-paced, constantly evolving environment
