SOCAN is seeking a Data Analyst to join the growing SOCAN Analytics team. Working closely with the Manager of SOCAN Analytics, you will learn our overall business model / internal processes and gain a deep level of understanding of the dozens of key data sources. As a Data Analyst you will collect, cleanse, model, visualize, and analyze internal and external data to provide reporting and insights which will inform data-based decision-making at SOCAN. You should also be comfortable independently querying/pulling data from various sources. The ideal candidate is curious, emotionally intelligent, and possesses a drive for continuous learning and self-improvement.
- In the first 3 months you will be expected to learn SOCAN’s business model and begin to connect business processes to data solutions.
- In the first 6 months you will be expected to learn SOCAN’s data architecture and begin developing realistic reporting solutions to supplement business strategy and decision making.
- By the end of year one, you will be expected to proactively drive reporting projects from start to finish while acting as a subject matter expert for all things analytics at SOCAN.
YOUR CONTRIBUTION
You will contribute to “raising the bar for music rights,” by:- Serving as a part of a key business function that anchors all data-led analytics initiatives cross-functionally within the organization.
- Performing analyses on large datasets to extract impactful insights that inform senior leadership and drive business strategy across the organization.
- Working with business leaders to understand operational processes and data analysis needs.
- Partnering closely with developers to identify and resolve data related issues.
- Working collaboratively with team members to develop solutions to data management and analysis initiatives.
- Designing & implementing automated business intelligence products using modern data modeling methodologies and visualization techniques.
- Documenting data requirements and solution designs to ensure efficiency and repeatability.
- Communicating insights and strategic recommendations through clear visualizations and presentations.

Skillset
- Strong analytical and quantitative mindset with the ability to work on large data sets, while keeping the big picture in mind.
- Proactive when required and can work independently while supporting teammates through knowledge transfer and coaching sessions.
- Ability to tackle loosely defined problems by asking the right questions.
- Fundamental understanding of data modelling techniques and methodologies.
- Demonstrated understanding of data analysis tools such as SAS, Python or R is preferred.
Experience
- Three or more years relevant experience in a data analysis or business intelligence role.
- Demonstrated experience writing, modifying, and executing SQL queries.
- Proficiency with modern business intelligence tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
- Extensive experience analyzing large financial datasets.
- Previous experience working with SQL Server Analysis Services (OLAP) is preferred.
- Experience working in an agile project management framework is preferred.
- Previous experience working in the music industry is an asset.
Education
- Completion of a post-secondary degree or diploma. Preferably in finance, economics, business administration or a STEM field.

WORKWEEK
- 35-hour work week over 5 days
- Summer Hours - possibility of a 4-day work week from May-August.
