The team is established and last year won the Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence Project of the Year with Yorkshire Water for using AI to predict potential pollution events into rivers.

Three functions support each other in delivering projects: Engineering who understand how to connect to assets and bring data from site into the cloud; DevOps who take an application from user experience development to v1 product approved for release in Siemens global portfolio; and Data Science, which generates the analytical methods, supports their integration in to the applications, and finally validating customer value in project delivery.

We are seeking to recruit a Lead Data Scientist to lead the Data Science function and support the growing product portfolio which includes: monitoring waste water networks to reduce pollution events and analysis of real-time water quality data to improve network resilience and reduce the cost of providing clean drinking water. This is an exciting role that will expose the successful candidate to a variety of problems, types of data and organisations.

As the Lead Data Scientist, you will be responsible for developing and delivering data science solutions to customer problems. This includes prototyping new methods and approaches and writing high quality code that can be deployed in packages or applications.

You will frequently speak to customers, either in a technical sales capacity or in a regular collaborative manner whilst prototyping and validating solutions. An ideal candidate will build strong relationships with customers and end users. Being able to present and communicate effectively with end users and internal/external stakeholders is a key aspect of the role.

The Lead Data Scientist will have an eye on the future and be able to identify upcoming challenges and roadmap potential technical improvements in our products. To prepare for the future, you will be expected to continue improving and building your skills. Siemens provides multiple avenues for this, opportunities for taking courses and has many data science teams around the world tackling a host of problems. There will be a need to network with these teams to share knowledge and look for transferable approaches.

There will be a Data Scientist to line manage and mentor and this may grow in the future as the products gain market share.

This is a great role for a (senior) data scientist looking to step up into a leading position.

Future thinker?

We are looking for a Data Scientist with ideally Graduate in a computer science or STEM (science, technology, engineering or mathematics) related field or the foreign equivalent.

You will have experience of history of delivering data science projects (Proven delivery of data science projects which are used internally or externally, Excellent technical knowledge, (Data acquisition methods and familiar with different types of data from physical systems (particularly time series data from sensors and processes)) strong coding ability (ideally Python Experience using Python related libraries, including some of numpy, SciPy, pandas, scikit-learn, Pytorch, Pytorch lightning) and the ability to coach/develop team members!
