Position Summary:

The Data Science team within T ableau’s Office of the CDO is seeking a Senior Data Engineer who is passionate about creating systems that provide actionable insights from data and putting those solutions into production. The candidate should have experience in all aspects of productionalizing data science/machine learning solutions, and the ability to work closely and collaboratively with data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders to create solutions that derive maximal value from our data

As a successful candidate you are an experienced data engineer experience in all aspects of the data science solutions lifecycle, including:

  • Profiling and cleaning data using standard tools such as Python, Pandas, etc
  • Building data pipelines with monitoring and alerting
  • Cloud services such as AWS, Azure
  • Data extracts and modeling
  • Software best practices

In addition, you are comfortable working with a variety of technical and business colleagues (data scientists, architects, analysts, business stakeholders) and can communicate technical information to these audiences.

Primary Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

  • Work as a member of a solutions team to design and implement data science/engineering solutions across the enterprise
  • Work independently on major facets of projects such as data extraction, profiling, and cleansing, feature creation and transformation, etc.
  • Contribute to solution design and architecture, accounting for scaling, monitoring and alerting, tracking parameter drift, etc.
  • Design and implement data pipelines using tools such as Airflow
  • Meet best practice standards, conduct code reviews, mentor less-experience team members

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Recruitment and Mentorship: Assist with making Tableau a company of builders; you will be expected to attract and senior engineering talent to continue Tableau’s focus on building great software for our customers
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

  • At least four (4) years coding experience in Python, Java, or Scala and open source packages and at least two years experience with databases (SQL, NoSQL, etc)
  • At least two (2) years experience in data manipulation (profiling, cleansing, transformation, etc.) in the context of building data science solutions
  • At least two (2) years experience in software development, experience developing data pipelines and data modeling
  • Familiarity with cloud services (AWS, Azure, etc)

Education/Experience:

  • BS in Computer Science or related field plus four years of relevant work experience, OR
  • Graduate degree in Computer Science or related field plus two years of relevant work experience
