As a Data Scientist, you will have substantial opportunity to make a real difference, shaping how we think about the regulation of data and technology markets and the activities of digital companies. You will be expected to have a broad understanding of the latest machine learning and broader data science techniques, how to implement them in practice, and an understanding of how they are being used in the private sector. You will also be responsible for delivering data science projects, making use of our cutting edge data science platform that gives frictionless access to the tools and packages data scientists need. You will be expected to scope potential projects and provide insight and recommendations on appropriate methods and techniques, including communicating with the wider CMA organisation on data science and related topics. The role will also include the opportunity for line management responsibility and mentoring of junior members of the team.
Responsibilities
You will need a masters degree in a quantitative or computer science subject or equivalent experience working in data science, data engineering or a closely related field. As well as your expert knowledge of modern machine learning methods, you will need a strong understanding of wider data science methods including data acquisition (e.g. web scraping), statistical methods, network analysis and data visualisation.
You will also need strong experience of coding in Python or R, specifically for data science and knowledge of data engineering tools, such as cloud services (e.g. AWS, Azure), implementations of data models (e.g. SQL and NoSQL solutions), and version control (e.g. Git).
