Opportunity

You’ll be joining a small team of data scientists that are comfortable being uncomfortable and will frequently be presented with new challenges. Data scientists at Cybera are generalists who combine knowledge in mathematics and statistics with strong computer programming skills, while working with internal and external clients. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of applying machine learning algorithms to solve challenging data science problems and an academic background in research, analytics, math and statistics.

About the role

In this role you will be directly involved in the entire process of creating data solutions and products - from design and requirements gathering through to model development and implementation, and knowledge dissemination. You will work closely with the data science team and other Cybera business units, and apply modern data science tools and techniques to develop workflows and models for advanced data analytics for a wide range of clients including researchers, government agencies, and businesses.

The successful candidate must be:

• Curious and have a desire to learn new things, techniques and technologies.
• Inquisitive and skilled in questioning datasets of varying quality and size to get insights.
• Rigorous and organized in delivering high quality analysis and results in a timely manner.
• Able to synthesize and communicate complex concepts and results to non-technical audiences.
• Collaborative with team members and clients.
• Willing to develop and share best practices, and mentor other data science team members.

Skills and experience you’ll bring to the team:

• A degree in a quantitative discipline (math, computer science, or life sciences).
• 3+ years experience using modern data science tools to operationalize and implement machine learning algorithms in production.
• 3+ years of software development experience developing data products.
• Advanced coding skills in Python, R, or Julia.
• Advanced knowledge and demonstrated experience working with data science and machine learning tools, such as NLTK, Tidyverse, Ray, TensorFlow, explainable AI algorithms, graph databases, Apache Spark, Apache Airflow, D3.js, et cetera.
• Advanced knowledge of the mathematical and statistical concepts underlying machine learning and neural network methods.
• Knowledge working with cloud computing platforms (e.g. AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform).

Compensation and Location:

Located at the University of Calgary Research Park, Calgary, Alberta OR in our Jasper Avenue office, Edmonton, Alberta. This opportunity is cross-posted.

Salary will be commensurate with experience. No relocation costs will be awarded.
