Data Analyst

The Construction industry is a fundamental part of the UK economy making up 7% of GDP (£110 billion). This opportunity is about being part of a new team created by the Group Director of Technical and Digital, led by the Global Data Architect. This team is about transforming this organisation to be at the fore front of data and analytics utilisation in the construction industry, leading the sector to a new era.

The new team needs a number of Data Analysts (alongside Data Scientist and Data Architect).

You need to be a driving force for change, with great stakeholder skills and a flare for collaboration. This role requires strong relationship management, compelling story telling and the ability to influence and simplify.

Team Level

• Identify pathways to transform our data and knowledge to actionable intelligence.
• Define key performance indicators for the success of the digital program and be accountable for them.
• Work closely with the global digital team and broader organisation to champion and create an agile collaborative culture.
• Provide transparency on risks and opportunities that arise from this initiative, and effectively communicate that to the executive teams.
• Ensure and enable the sharing of information across Laing O'Rourke to leverage the global expertise and experience around our businesses.

Individual Level

The specific role of Data Analyst will be to use analytics to extract value from business data, with specific responsibilities of:

• Identifying opportunities to improve consistency in data, leveraging exploratory analysis and assessing data quality based on expectations of the data
• Trouble-shooting root causes of data problems and running ad hoc analysis that will help support and inform the overall data strategy
• Improving data wrangling and preparation to increase efficiencies, organising and cleaning raw data
• Performing descriptive statistics and evaluating trends in data to determine suitability of a dataset or combined datasets to answer the questions from the business.

What you'll bring to the role:

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, detail orientated and methodical.
• Proven experience with one or more programming languages, preferably Python.
• Hands-on knowledge of unsupervised and supervised machine learning methods and data toolkits such as Numpy, Pandas, scikit, etc.
• Engineering / Computer Science / Statistics Degree with Masters Preferred or equivalent experience.

Additional Skills that will be sought after and valued:

• Theoretical or applied understanding of statistics and mathematics
• Hands-on knowledge of unsupervised and supervised machine learning methods
• Ability to leverage integration tools such as APIs, Web Services, JDBC/ODBC connectors, and other integration technologies
